I'm in Texas. I'm having some repairs/renovations done to my home and yard in preparation for selling it. I accepted a quote for a landscaping job by email. We set a date for the job next month. They said they'd send a contract for me to sign and that they required a deposit. I have not received the contract. I'd like to cancel the job. Can I? YANML. [more inside]

Made a few mistakes in signing under pressure on a car purchase. Never had possession of the vehicle and was due to finalize payment the following day. In the meantime, I realized that the dealer did not give me my copy of the purchasing agreement and began to worry that the verbal assurances they gave me about the car's certification and warranty were not on the contract. The next morning (today), I return to the dealer, request my copy and confirm my fears. I demanded that they cancel the contract, which they did, but now I am wondering if it is "really" cancelled. A verbal promise for partial ownership in the company I work for needs to become a paper contract, and given the power differential and the several years since this promise has been discussed in detail, I need recommendations for the best possible attorneys to have on my side. This past week, when i was away on vacation, my Samsung Galaxy phone was stolen. (I had the service suspended right away). It was a new phone, on a new three year contract with Bell Canada, signed in April. From what i can tell, there aren't any good options that don't cost me hundreds of dollars. [more inside]

Got a Government research contract - now everybody needs to start tracking their time with some kind of DCAA compliant time card system. We're a small 10 person start-up and there's a bewildering range of people and companies offering time tracking solutions. So I'm seeking the hive mind's experience. Should I just use a paper time-cards? If so, where can I find a good template or sample? Should I go with a software or web-based solution? We only have one contract and it encompasses almost everything we do so there's not a lot of complexity tracking multiple proposals. Our business is not to be a government contractor - this project is more in the line of a small business incubator grant.
A school administrator just read me a letter listing what they say are my misdeeds and asked me to sign it. I really need to sit down with a General Contractor, or Architect, to get a better understanding of estimating, bids, and contracts. I'd pay for the time, since it really is consulting, and I respect their busy time. Have contacted SCORE here in NY, but no result from it yet. I know a few GCs working on a small, residential level; but it would be inappropriate for me to approach them cause we may be working together. Have tried to ask some questions here on Meta, but they are too specific. A book, or reference won't do it. I need real, current info. Any ideas?
We are about to send out bid documents (drawings, prelim-specs, geo-tech report) for a 3300 sqft residence, to invited Contractors; and need some examples of tight, organized bid formats. I bought an Iphone through ATT dec 9th. Found out today i will be in Japan this year starting this spring for one year ATT Contract states:"simply return it either to a store or by mail within 30 days from the date the equipment." I assumed that that meant 30 full days of use (hence return today would be OK, but they insist that it meant 30 calendar days irregardless of what time the phone was picked up or activated, and so they denied my return. Any thoughts on my options? Should the contract not be more clear on precise what 30 days means?
