How much is Katy Perry worth? Is there any realistic way to calculate how much she got paid for what she produced? (Not the exact amount, but presumably we ought to be able to get the order of magnitude right.) [more inside]
Several years ago I remember reading a very well-regarded article about the financial realities of the life of a band when it gets signed by a music label. I think it was from Rolling Stone, but I couldn't swear by that fact. I recall that it laid out in detail about how the advances work, how exciting it is for the band at first, and then how the entire industry is built to completely financially destroy them. Does this ring a bell with anyone? My nephew is going to become a world-famous millionaire rock star, and I want to give him something to think about while he is working for that big break....
I prepaid for music lessons, no contract, but no longer want the lessons - can I get a full refund for the remaining lessons - Please read on, there is more. I want to know if I have a case for small claims. [more inside]
Who can license music for download/sale? A friend came up with a wicked cool idea for selling music using the internet, but it can't be done through some affiliate mp3 link (like Amazon). We're just a couple of college guys, and we don't know any rockstars or label executives. [more inside]
What should I negotiate for the use of my song on a compilation? [more inside]
What kind of a contract does a band need to sign in case their music is used in a low budget (indie) film?

My band have been offered a contract from by a record company and want to get it checked out before we sign it. Basically I'm looking for personal recommendations of entertainment lawyers in the UK. I don't just want to pick one out of the yellow pages if I can avoid it.
