There are three of us who are starting a business next year and one of my future co-founders is insisting that everyone signs an employment contract stipulating that we stay at the company for at least three years. Contract violations haven't been discussed yet - the contract hasn't been written yet - but a hefty fine is likely. Is this type of contract common between co-founders? What other risks should I be aware of before/if signing this?

Can anyone recommend an attorney for a small IT consulting company in the Chicago/North Shore area? My husband hopes to embark on a new contract with a Big Firm, and it's time to revisit some legal aspects involved in this type of adventure.
Many thanks in advance.

I buy an item from a major online deal-a-day site. They withdraw the funds from my account. Does this constitute a legally binding contract that they will provide me with the item, or are they able at their discretion to refund the purchase price and walk away?

I've been asked to contribute to a collection of op-ed/essays/creative nonfiction type stories, to be published together as a book. I have no idea how this stuff works, but I know the release form says I won't get paid. Anybody have any experience with this kind of thing? Is this a normal clause for a first-time author who barely even counts as an author?

Who can license music for download/sale? A friend came up with a wicked cool idea for selling music using the internet, but it can't be done through some affiliate mp3 link (like Amazon). We're just a couple of college guys, and we don't know any rockstars or label executives.

Will the Korean doctor rob me blind?? Here's the long and short of it... my father is the doctor that pioneered tumescent liposuction. he teaches his techniques to other doctors on a regular basis and manufactures the tools and equipment involved with the procedure.
Recently, a doctor from Korea, I'll call him Dr. Lee, took my father's course and liked it so much that he expressed an interest in teaching the course in Korea and to sell my fathers products in his courses. My father is very interested, but feels concerned that he must submit all of his technical files to Dr. Lee so that he can submit them in an application to the Korean FDA for approval.

About a year ago I agreed (verbally) to do some programming work for a startup in exchange for a small amount of equity. In the meantime I've lost faith that this equity will be worth anything.
Can I decline to do this work, or have I made a binding verbal contract that I must now fulfill?
