I'd like to talk to someone in Newport, Oregon, about business and employment. We've never met, I'd be reaching out to him straight out of the blue. How can I do this without looking like a weirdo? [more inside]
I'm trying to find a place to purchase some special effects contact lenses like the type here. Due to the proximity to Halloween I'd ideally like to purchase them locally in San Francisco. I tried calling Kryolan and asking for leads, but they had none. Neither did my optometrist's office. I'd also happily look at an online retailer that offers expedited shipping.
I'm doing some web development for a realtor, and he's asked me to look into some ideas. Is there a service that will let me find all the street addresses within a radius of a given address? (From a block to a half-mile radius, for example.) What about a service that provides contact info (name, at least) for a given address. It'd be even better if I could also research whether the occupant rents or owns, what their estimated income is, etc.

My new job uses Salesforce.com and competition to uncover the good stuff, even from the semi-discarded "Shark Tank" leads and contacts. Teach me your tricks for sorting leads and contacts to find potential sales. What are the best filters to add when creating views to screen out junk? What are the best ways to make sure that if an old lead starts to come back from the dead (say, with fresh Pardot activity) that I get there first? I am ready to learn, sensei. Show me the way.
Remembering who someone is has been a roadblock to successful networking in the past – but in my new job, I have more people to remember than ever. I’d like to know what you, as someone who also has trouble remembering names and faces, has done to keep track of a large network. I am not looking for mnemonic tricks to remember one or several specific names. I’m hoping more for something like “Everyone I meet goes in my electronic rolodex that I update with X information after each meeting.” [more inside]
YANM eye doctor. I got a screening from UC Berkeley's eye clinic last year and was okayed for LASIK, but haven't gone through with it yet. During this year's routine eye exam, they finally diagnosed me with dry eye syndrome. Since LASIK can also cause permanent dry eye, is it still relatively safe for me to get? [more inside]

I'm a new contact-lense wearer. A couple of weeks ago, I got the Acuvue Moist daily contact lenses from an optometrist. I was told to wear them daily for a week to get used to them. I wore them for about 4 days (5 hours/day) and then I quit wearing them because I had to do a lot of driving on those days and the contact lenses made my eyes feel dry and uncomfortable. So now I'm trying to wear them again but they still feel as uncomfortable as they did when I first began wearing them. I don't have blurry vision when wearing them. They just feel uncomfortable and I know that they are in my eyes. I don't know if it's because I'm still not used to them or that my eyes just can't handle contact lenses. How long did it take you to get used to your contact lenses at first and how did it feel for you?

She's been to 4 eye doctors here and gone through many many different lenses shapes w/o success. For what it's worth, she has lenses that worked before - but from a doctor on the West Coast. Thanks!

Do you have suggestions for a system that will help me track the many new contacts I'm making as I start up my business? At the moment it's a mish-mash of notebooks, my phone, email, google docs and my (increasingly full) memory of conversations and phone calls. These might be people who've contacted me for a proposal, or it could be someone who says 'You should talk to my friend who does X - I'll put you in touch' and I want to remember to follow up with them later. My therapist has suggested I spend time with people -- not online, but In Real Life -- in order to help me me deal with issues I have with avoiding difficult situations and confrontation. I thought I would make a list of people I want to spend time with and then periodically 'ask them out' just to spend time and chat about things. Perhaps a lunch or something similar. These could be friends, family, business relationships or just people I respect and would like to spend time with. CONTACTUALLY already does this quite well but is a bit feature-heavy and is geared towards business contacts. I am looking for something a bit more lightweight and geared toward individuals and personal relationships. I think just the following features ought to do it: 1. List of people and contact info 2. Reminders to meet periodically that could be changed based on the contact. 3. Ideally, something that could be edited either online AND an app so that its synced. Looking forward to getting your ideas and input.

I am working on a list since 2004 that I think would be salable. It's publicly available contact information for radio, TV, magazines, syndicates, newspapers, book publishers and agents. I'm a freelancer and I originally started it because I wanted to be able to reach these sources to interest them in my content. But I realized it could be a product. [more inside]

The other members of a group activity I'm involved in are geographically spread out and we need an online space to store documents, contact details and a calender. Google groups isn't really going to cut it as there's no calender function and we're currently communicating via Facebook, which is limiting in terms of the document storage side. I could use a combination of dropbox/google calender/facebook but I'd like to keep to one single system if possible, particularly one that doesn't require people to set up additional accounts. Any recommendations?
