Looking for information on Montalto Pavese, in an area called 'Oltrepò Pavese'. More specifically, the houses, the typical construction and what type of local stone. Any specs on wall construction, carpentry, etc. Are the local builders/trades still available for stonework and general construction? Less specific, any knowledge of terrain, food, local towns, tourism and the potential for a tourist/guest house/rental.
I removed my range hood to replace it with a new one. The old range hood was duct taped to the duct which I guess carries the smoke from my cooking out the roof vent. The next day, the entire duct had fallen down onto the new stove. I pushed it up and braced it in its hole but now I need to put the new range hood on. Does anyone know how the duct work is supposed to be attached to the vent on the roof? I could duct tape it to the new hood then bolt the hood in place but that doesn't seem right. Some construction help please... Thanks.
I sort of have a box addiction. I collect cardboard boxes for shipping boardgames, or that's what I tell myself, but sometimes I just collect them. I am not a meth user, but probably have a hoarding gene. So I want to make some simple wooden boxes using simple tools to rebox a few favorite games. I have a jig saw, hand saw, drill, circular saw and a few other cheap tools, like a plastic mitre box. The boxes don't have to be examples of fine wordworking, just functional and not too crude. I'm looking for resources on how to do this without dropping hundreds of dollars on antique planes or tools.

Please help me to find, and to understand Toronto's Construction and Parking By-Laws, and then how to have them enforced and upheld strictly, quickly, and legally in order to protect our rights, our property and our peace of mind. I have been to the city's website, and have downloaded Chapter 363 Building Construction and Demolition and am trying to understand how to apply the information in it. I've Googled, and have written to the City Planner and our local Councillor's office for information and advice - but know from experience that their responses take days if not weeks and I see that we will sometimes need to immediately effect change. Jokingly mentioning to the construction workers "Please kind to your neighbours!" isn't working. I need to take Gladys Kravitzing to the next level. [more inside]

Construction newbies would like to build a backyard ramada. We're thinking of an open structure, similar to an arbor. The plan is to use 4 4x4 posts set 8 feet apart.
