She bought a condo w/ a laminate floor; is this deception?

A friend of a friend bought an expensive condominium in Mid Manhattan. It appeared to me the floors are laminate; I have to return and look closer. Aside from the major cheapness factor, they are advertised as having wood floors. Is this a deception? How does she get clarification? Would her purchase documents have this detailed?

code and construction requirements rebuilding post-sandy nyc

What are the updated building codes and construction requirements for rebuilding homes and businesses in the NYC Boroughs post Sandy? And in addition to raising the foundation the required amount depending on elevation of the property, and the flood risk zone, what engineering and construction methods/standards could be examined to meet, or exceed, the tougher thresholds?

Need overview for a proposed audio/visual, security and computer layout

Looking for a good overview for a proposed audio/visual, security and computer layout in an urban residence. e.g. list of equipment, layout, controls, outlets, wiring, speakers. This is new, not retro-fit, the walls are open, all the wiring and controls can be neatly coordinated. Help me see this in plan; as a well-tuned clock; not a mish-mash.

construction bid formats

We are about to send out bid documents (drawings, prelim-specs, geo-tech report) for a 3300 sqft residence, to invited Contractors; and need some examples of tight, organized bid formats. By Division, starting w/ General Requirements, w/ Exclusions? Any advice, from the Architect/Owner side, would be helpful. Contractors- what formats did not drive you batty?

new tile floor?

a friend's basement flooded, and the floor needs replacing (wood on a concrete slab). she asks if porcelain tile could be laid in, considering the (remote) chance it could happen again. I think so, but wonder about the contact layer, and leveling over the slab. what would you use? would you seal the edges to prevent water getting in there (freezing/expansion)? is porcelain impervious?

Montalto Pavese Italy

Looking for information on Montalto Pavese, in an area called 'Oltrepò Pavese'. More specifically, the houses, the typical construction and what type of local stone. Any specs on wall construction, carpentry, etc. Are the local builders/trades still available for stonework and general construction? Less specific, any knowledge of terrain, food, local towns, tourism and the potential for a tourist/guest house/rental.
