I recently set up a docking station for my laptop on a desk in my room. The only problem is that this seems to have really spotty WiFi coverage. Sometimes it's fine, sometimes it lags to hell when trying to load even something mostly text-based like Metafilter. Streaming is often impossible. I'm considering buying a range extender for my network - what should I keep in mind? [more inside]
I'd like to use my iPhone 6+ in Britain during our two week vacation. Fido offers me a sad $10/20MB/day data plan. I assume I can do better by buying a different SIM in when I get to Heathrow. But what flavour of plan and what sort of provider should I be looking for? [more inside]
I bought a Toshiba Chromebook 2 a couple months ago, and it has one very annoying problem that I can't figure out how to fix. [more inside]
After years of trouble-free operation, my 4 year old Linksys N750 wifi router has begun having problems, mainly that it drops the internet connection on the 2.4 G band (but not the 5 G band curiously enough). That is to say, the 2.4G Wifi connection isn't itself lost, just that the 2.4G channel loses its internet connectivity. It seems to happen mostly in the evenings. Since my phone and the Wii we watch Netflix through can only use 2.4G, this has become very annoying. [more inside]
My property's at the end of a PG&E power line and during the winter, fallen trees and mud slides cut the power for a few days at a time. Most utilities (heating, refrigeration, cooking, water heater) have propane or wood-fired back-up but Internet connectivity has not. I would like a power supply for +5 VDC and +12 VDC, capable of about 60 Ah, and rechargeable with solar cells. [more inside]
I bought an Ethernet/USB adapter for my Dell laptop which doesn't have a USB port. Every few minutes the computer will make the "usb was disconnected sound", and then after about 3 seconds, it will think it's plugged back in. This causes a disconnect in my internet. Why does it do this? How can I fix it?
My Linksys WRT54G router keeps losing internet connectivity, even though the wireless seems to be fine. Halp? [more inside]

So I used WAZE for my morning commute on my iPhone. It's on my dash and out of easy reach. But sometimes I get an idea for a thing I need to do when I get to the office. Or a text I need to send. So I have to stretch and reach over for the iPhone button to hold it down and dictate it to Siri. Then I thought: What if I just had a button. On me. So that's what I'm looking for. A button I can have close to me that I can press to activate the same function on the iPhone. Not a headset. Or a speakerphone. My car's functionality there works great. Just a button to trigger the thing that's a foot out of easy reach. Now It'd be great if it was like a pin on and didn't look awful so it could be semi decorative. But frankly even if it was big and ugly and I could mount it on the wheel that would work too. So...anyone know any straight button options?
Hi everyone, For the past 5 years I've used LinkSys BEFSR41 (version 4) router and generally haven't had too many issues but for the past 6 months its been pretty hellish as I have intermittent dropped connection and LinkSys says that this model is no longer supported and has no active firmware upgrades. My household has 3 computers hard-wired and connect at all times. One of them is hooked up to online tv streaming so you could say the internet is always 'on' here. [more inside]
After a recent change in routers by my service provider it's taking a depressingly long amount of time to connect to the internet. I need a fix explained to me like I'm your grandmother's less computer savvy friend. Details henceforth. [more inside]
My laptop connects to every wireless WiFi signal I ask it to, except for one in a single particular office, where I do some volunteer work. The signal is strong, everyone else's laptops connect, but mine doesn't. Or sometimes it does, and then gets kicked off after just a few minutes. Is there a way to troubleshoot this? Why might this be happening in only this one location, with only this one signal? It's a mystery to me.

First, let me state that I have no idea if these two things are interrelated, but it seems like they could be, so I'm going to go ahead and conjecture here: our AT&T cell phone service drops from nearly full 3G to one bar from time to time (usually during calls, of course) and our wi-fi does the same thing. I've tried timing it and I can't seem to nail it down to anything. Could these service drops be related? [more inside]
My father-in-law needs help connecting his Windows 7 laptop to a WiFi network; he is apparently dealing with an interference issue that stops him from connecting while at home. This is complicated by the fact that I am 1500 miles away and will not be able to help in person. He is not tech savvy. Suggestions? [more inside]
I'm having problems with my home wifi network. I'm seeing sporadic periods (a couple of hours a day) where websites load slowly, partially, or not at all. How can I diagnose this problem? Are there router settings to try setting differently? Should I just get a new router? [more inside]

Is there a somewhat simple solution to this problem? We recently installed new wireless Internet at home but my laptop (older Toshiba Satellite) refuses to connect to the net. It will automatically find our network and connect to it, but doesn't go that step further to actually connect to the Internet. This only happens with the wireless at home - it works fine with other networks I've tried out. Is my computer just not recognizing the new modem?
My laptop (and only my laptop) intermittently fails to see my wi-fi network. Please help me solve the problem. [more inside]
IP question for associate*: 2 person office, once larger and set up with a server and bunch of static IP addresses. The server is no longer being used. Company website is hosted off site. Is there any reason to have these static IP addresses? Connected with email in any way? .....*"IP" in my case stands for Ignorant Person... ie. I never have understood what IP addresses are all about and how it works with regard to a company. Hence my question. [more inside]
Like many people, I've got wireless router issues (Netgear MR814v2 -- yeah, it's getting old). I'm troubleshooting them as I can and haven't found anything that should be interfering, and all my firmware is up to date. Putting that to one side, I'm pretty tired of running down and up the stairs to unplug the router and plug it back in again (six to 10 times a day). My diagnostics show I've got connectivity between the computer and the router even when I can't connect to the Internet. Is there some way to reboot the router from my computer?

Got my Motorola Droid. Love my Droid. However, Verizon's impressive map doesn't seem to include the cell phone black hole which is my neighborhood. I was hoping to hook my Droid to our home wireless network to avoid the slow connection problem, and dutifully inputted our WEP key, but all efforts to get the Droid on home network have been a bust. I did check the Droid user forums and download a couple of apps -- still no luck. What else can I do besides return my Droid? (Which ain't gonna happen.)
