I've been tasked to find a solution for the following: We make software for different kinds of machines. The machines are all controlled from Windows PCs connected to each machine individually. Every developer who has to test something copies their newly built software on a flash drive, walks out to the lab, makes a backup of what was running on the PC connected to that particular machine, puts in their own software, runs the tests, and in the end copies everything back like it was before. Network configuration question: I have a desktop with a wifi card, a wireless router, and an external wireless connection I have access to. I want to connect the desktop to the external wireless connection, then connect the wireless router to the desktop, creating a second wireless network with internet access. [more inside]

Is there a tool online that might be able to tell me what parameters I would want for a new computer (probably laptop) given my current patterns of use? Looking in stores leads me to think I don't need the high end models but I'd hate to buy something only to find out I should have sprung for the extra RAM. [more inside]

I am setting up a computer for an art gallery show, and I want to configure VLC to automatically launch and play a DVD in full screen mode when the computer boots. Can anyone recommend the best way to do this on a Windows XP system? Being able to disable the on screen transport controls would also be a plus.

I want to make sure I am doing it in a way to most efficiently use the space I have. I have 2 harddrives. 8gig and 40gig. The 8gig is my primary and 40gig the slave.
What is the best way to set up my directory tree so that the majority of the software is installed to the 40gig and all of the necessary system files are on the 8gig? I use Kubuntu 6.06 and am willing to edit the config files or even reinstall if it seems worth it.x harddrive mount?

I have recently found a free VOIP download call ADCALLS. I want to experiement making telephone calls over the internet. My question is do I need to purchase a computer headset or can I use my computer speakers and just purchase a microphone? I am leary that combining my speakers with a microphone may create a voice loop. However, it will be more convenient to use the speakers/microphone configuration for freedom of movement.

I want to learn IOS and any other Cisco switch configuring protocol stuff. Is there a good resource for this? I kind of need it to get out of a bad situation so learning quick would be much appreciated. I want to learn the fundamentals so that I can a) impress them b) begin the learning curve which is the hardest thing to do in my opinion.
BTW this is switch configuring for a wireless network. [more inside]

MacFilter: How do you make the screen fonts bigger in OS X? I've just upgraded my grandmother from a virus-infested WinME box to a 17" iMac G5. Unfortunately, the text is much too small for her to read clearly, and she wants her WinMe box back. I've changed the resolution down to 1024x768. Other than seriously degrading the image quality, it doesn't make the fonts much larger.
I'm comfortable working with the command line and editing plists, so don't hold anything back.

I'm looking to create a Wiki; actually several. The issue though is this - I don't want to have to do this twice. I tried blogger...and then after about six months I had really seen most of the blogging community/software and saw that Movable Type had the greatest flexibility + future (there was a time where I almost was going to use Greymatter!)
I was hoping with the collective strenght of Mefi - that someone would say:"yeah, this is the best of the bunch...and with a decent future"
