I want to take a vacation that includes some sort of intellectual festival or conference where I'll meet interesting people and discuss ideas. (I'm a party animal.) Think TED gone to summer camp or Davos for hipsters ;-) The Do Lectures and Porcupine Freedom Festival both sound massively interesting - what other events should I look into? [more inside]
For various reasons, I've been considering going back to school for information sciences. To aid me in this I've arranged to volunteer for the Texas Library Association's annual conference happening this week, which also means I get to see the exhibitions and go to networking stuff. Hooray! But now I'm getting overwhelmed. So much vocab I don't know! Out of all of the libraries in all of the places in all of the world, Mefites, what sorts of programs should I be talking to? Looking for a simple, clean html template for an academic conference in computer science. What I found via Google was mostly too flashy, complicated, or confusing. Will consider WordPress if need be, but just html or php would be preferred. [more inside]

I’ve received a rather unlikely invitation to attend the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Davos. What can I expect? What shall I do in preparation, and at the event, in order to maximise the opportunity? [more inside]
I think I was at a science fiction convention once and they had guidelines on asking questions during the questions and answers part of a session. It had a list of things to consider such as: don't use your turn to comment rather than ask a question. I'd really love to find it again so that I can use it for other events, and also have session chairs know the guidelines so that they can encourage good q&a sessions.
I'm involved with an organization at my university that has funds for members to travel to events that are relevant to their interests or fields of study. I'd like to take advantage of this before I graduate in May. So, I'm looking for conferences/events/etc. that are occurring in the United States (no passport) during the month of April. The organization has a pretty large amount of funds left, so let's assume that cost is not an issue. (I mean, nothing crazy. Let's keep it under a few thousand). My interests are many and varied. I'm majoring in geography, so I like maps. I like design, architecture, journalism, web stuff, arts, literature, history, and food. Seriously, I can get interested in anything. Ideally, this event would allow some flexibility so that I can explore whatever place it's in. [more inside]
I'm an iOS developer, and I'm trying to schedule and budget for technical conferences next year. I've been to WWDC a few times, and will likely try to get tickets again in 2014. I'll probably also attend a CocoaConf. Other than that, can anyone recommend iOS-related conferences or classes they've found valuable and fun. In the US or Canada is preferable, but Europe is not out of the question.

I am super excited about the subject matter (data visualization, creative code, etc.) I am a somewhat experienced designer and a pretty new coder (though I do have a relevant project up on the web). I know nothing though about how do get the most out of this. Please advise!

What cool conferences have you been to? Last year for vacation, I went to the AAAS (American Association for the Advancement of Science) annual general meeting and WorldCon. I found out about SIGGRAPH too late to go. A cool conference is where there's plenty of new insight and ideas...oh yes and plenty of nifty loot/freebies!
