I've found a very nice condo rental unit, with lots of the features on my "wish list." The big drawback is a "long-distance" landlord who is leaving me unsure about who's responsible for maintenance. [more inside]
The US Postal service has an address standardization/correction service that many companies use. When we put our condo address in as 123A Main Street, it changes it to "123 MAIN ST APT A". Since we don't live in an apartment, is there any way to change that with the USPS so it would be "123 MAIN ST UNIT A" or "123A MAIN ST"?

I have a list of neighborhoods I'd consider living, a list of amenities that I consider necessary and/or negotiable, and a $ amount in mind per month. How can I make the selection process move along more quickly than the Craigslist Method? [more inside]
I am going to be moving soon, and for the first time in several years, it will be on my own. I'd really like resources for checklists on what to have in my new domicile, and as well, ideas for furnishing and decorating. [more inside]

I own a condo in northern Virginia that I have been renting out for a few years and I have an applicant to move in...from overseas. He is post-doc at a government agency that has a two year appointment. What kinds of information should I gather to screen him as a tenant? And how do I deal with the broken lease from the previous tenant? [more inside]

I am working in Central Jersey now (near Princeton), and still living in NYC. Want to know if there any acceptable places for a single guy to live in this area. I checked out River Park at Raritan - it looks ok. Looked at Pike Run in Belle Mead, but I read a number of reviews and they were all pretty bad. Tenants were complaining about bedbugs and poor insulation. Are there any places, preferably on the luxury rental side, that are decent for a single professional to live in the area?

I am thinking about buying a specific apartment (condo) in Brooklyn, NY. For this question, let's assume that this apartment is a smart investment / better than renting, financially. While I don't have plans to leave New York in the immediate future, I'm not 100% committed to staying here, either. So my question is about contingencies: if I got this apartment, then in a few years needed to move to a different city, how much pain would I be bringing upon myself to keep the apartment and rent it out? My boyfriend and I just booked a flight to Honolulu for the first week of May and now we need to find accommodations. We're hoping to find a week-long rental somewhere within the city to use as a home base, spend most of our time at the beach and/or exploring nearby tourist-y sites via public transit, and maybe rent a car for just a couple days. Suppose, hypothetically, that I were considering a move to Toronto, Ontario. I've never been there. Can someone give a quick rundown of the city and its neighborhoods? Where should a 30-something single professional from the Boston suburbs look for a nice two-bedroom condo?
I'm thinking about buying a new flat - but it's in the basement of a big old house. Anyone know of any pitfalls I should watch out for - and specifically, what are the tell-tale signs of damp (that even a novice would notice)?
