So, I live in Austin, but I've never done the SXSW thing. Seems like too much trouble. But The Strokes are playing a free show tomorrow night and I wouldn't mind seeing it. Trouble is, the show is at 8, and I don't get off work (out by Steiner Ranch) until 5 PM. My question is, would it be better for me to drive straight there and try to find parking, drive back to my apartment near the Arboretum and take the bus, or forget about it altogether? Looking for advice from anyone more knowledgeable of the local transit situation and SXSW in particular.

I'm "THAT" mom - and it's that time of year. It's time to plan the Spring Concert performance for a Kindergarten class, having a "Jungle" theme; and aside from the limitations imposed by circumstances, only one rule applies: "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" has been banned after five consecutive years of being performed in every concert no matter what the theme. I'm based in Scotland, and looking for clever ways to raise more money for a charity music show I am putting on. A decent number of people should be coming (100?) but not sure how many of them will donate before the night, I'd like to have a few things on the night to make sure I get around everyone to give them the chance to help, especially as I am not doing something super-challenging like running a marathon or skydiving etc. so am in no physical danger. At the moment the biggest danger is being dressed like a pirate singing backstreet boys songs (crazy voters!) [more inside]

I'm going to see the Night Marchers in Bristol this evening and my tickets say it starts at 7.30. I've been to two other shows in Bristol (at different venues) and they both said they'd start at 7.30 but the bands didn't start playing until around 9. Is this a standard thing for small rock shows? I don't want to show up at 7.30 and have to wait around for an hour and a half.
So this past May, Bruce Springsteen walks into a bar...and joins Mike Ness onstage. They crank out a couple of tunes, but apparently there's no decent audio/video of the event (that I can find, anyway). Curious if anyone out there has come across a recording of this event? Their version of "Ball and Chain" would be of most interest to me.
