Techie Birthday Present

My wife's birthday is coming up in early September and I need help finding a birthday present Fast as I'm going to be tied up the next couple weeks. She likes "toys" like remote control cars, helicopters, preferably that she can build herself. I got her a helicopter last year and a remote controlled car kit already so those ideas are out. She has a basic arduino kit and is always looking for a new project. She also likes cool gadgets for cooking, grilling. And she's into all kinds of music. She has an iPod, iPad, a Mac, a PC (several, actually). I'd like to keep it under $150 if possible. Your ideas would be most appreciated!

How does remotely accessing somebody else's computer even work, anyway?

I just visited Facebook and it showed me the login screen with the email address of the guy I'm dating as the username. I was using FB earlier today, puttering around, sending messages and whatnot, and I haven't logged out of FB or restarted my Mac since. What's going on here? Am I paranoid to think that he (or someone else) could have remotely accessed my computer? [more inside]

How to turn Web developer isolation into something more outgoing?

I'm a humanities-oriented people person freelancing as a Web developer and IT person, but tired of working from home in isolation. While I enjoy running my own operation, I wish I could get out there and teach people, work with kindred spirits, etc. Anyone have any ideas or experience they might be willing to share on beating this predicament? Are DB/IT groups really infallible?

I work at a small software company. I'm a developer, so my cohorts and I are responsible for our own software bugs and it's pretty obvious when we screw something up. My policy is to fess up, fix it, and move on. But another group in the company, responsible for all database administration and all networking/internet issues, has never made a mistake. Is that really possible? [more inside]
