My CD/DVD drive on my HP laptop isn't working. It won't open when I push the open button, doesn't respond when I try to open it through a program, but can be forced open. However, when I insert a disc of any kind, it doesn't read it. Is there a way to solve this problem, or will I have to go through the annoying process of taking it to Best Buy and having them send it out for two weeks?
Oh, and also I am running Vista, if that means anything.

After buying Office 2007 (Standard) on my Vista system, I can no longer change file associations. I migrated from a mixture of Office 2000 Professional and Windows office XP. When I go to the file association dialog box, it recommends odd programs, and no Office 2007 options, hence nothing opens in the new format. It won't change even if I point to the correct .exe file in Office 12 folder. The menu doesn't even offer any Word 2007 options. HELP! Nothing on the web or on the Microdouche website.

I just installed a new motherboard (and various other things). Yay! The problem is, my keyboard worked fine when I was mucking around in my CMOS, but nothing plugged into any of my USB or ps/2 ports works in Windows. Argh!

When trying to open a large project in cakewalk sonar 5 producer edition, i encounter the error "Windows has encountered an error and must shut down." When i try to open a smaller project (under 800mb of ram) it opens without a hitch.

I'm having major problems with both Firefox (my browser of choice) and Opera 8. Firefox stalls consistently for a considerable amount of time (1 min - 5 mins) on specific sites (for instance
del.icio.us/popular/) and Opera has a font-rendering bug on most sites (for instance, again,
del.icio.us/popular/).

In WinXP SP2, I can no longer drag and drop files from one folder to another, or from Explorer onto applications. Nothing happens, either right- or left-clicking. To move files around I have to cut and paste.
Any idea how to get my drag and drop back?

I'm compiling a disc of useful windows diagnostic and troubleshooting utilities for when I have to make house calls for friends and relatives. what are some maybe lesser known tools that you guys have found particularly useful? freeware would be nice, but not necessary.
