Why is some of my RAM not usuable?

My Windows 7 laptop says "Installed RAM 6.0 GB (2.87 GB usable)." What? Why is some of my RAM not usable? I have a 4-GB stick and a 2-GB stick, but I'm only getting 3 GBs of use of out them?

Why does my router change its own name?

Why does my Linksys router keep changing its own name? I go to the Linksys URL,, I give my router a unique name--say, Roxanne--and I give it a solid password and disable its broadcast. All is well. Then, a few days later, my PC fails to connect. When I plug in a cable and go back to the Linksys page, I see that Roxanne is no longer the name. The router has renamed itself "linksys," and so my PC no longer connects automatically. This happens no matter how often I change the name back. Any ideas?

What is a firewall rule group?

What is a "firewall rule group"? When recently trying to install an MP3 player on my laptop, I was met with an error message that read "Operation Create Wireless Firewall Rule Group has failed," followed by Microsoft error code 0X80070057. I've searched around but haven't found much info on "rule groups." What is a firewall rule group, and is my wireless router somehow interrupting my hardware installation? Thanks!

Why can't Explorer see the files in an external drive?

Windows Explorer can't see certain files within folders on an external hard drive. I'm running XP. I plug in a Firelite 40-gig external drive. Windows Explorer recognizes half a dozen .wmv files and three folders. However, it tells me that those three folders are empty, when in fact they each contain about 5 gig of MP3s and/or .doc files. When I hover the cursor above the folder, I'm told "Folder is empty." Okay, so I disconnect and plug the Firelite into my laptop, which runs Vista. Lo and behold, those folders are no longer empty at all, and all of my files are visible. What's going on?
