I went away for the weekend and when I returned this is what I get everytime I try to access the internet. Can't use google at all so IE is my only option. I'm freaking out a bit. I keep getting pop ups from "System Progressive Protection" that is trying to sell me stuff but I'm not buying into what I see as a scam. Every program I open is said to be infected. Everything was fine 3 days ago. It won't even let me Skype. Help, please

Virus removal help! I seem to have a katusha.a infection on our laptop. AVG said it removed it, it came back, now AVG won't run correctly. MalWarebytes doesn't seem to run at all. All the instructions I can find online seem to be "Download OUR awesome virus cleaner!" Can you hope me? Please explain everything to me as if I am a cavewoman. I
am considering hitting it with a hammer.

So, I have nearly a terabyte of photos of my daughter stored on a computer which has been taken over by tr/crypt.xpack.gen (if that is your real name). It would probably be best that I store the photos on some sort of server somewhere (clouds?), but I know nothing of such things. Any advice on online storage, computer security, and not shooting in raw would be greatly appreciated. Please help, as we would rather not have to force my daughter back in the womb to recreate the photos of her birth.

Computer repair from afar-filter: my sister's Dell desktop is infected with one (or more) viruses, and I'm not around to fix it for her.
deezil's profile is too detailed to mail to her or trying to walk her through, so I'm looking to get her to a fix-it shop in Ventura, CA, or recommendations on one of the fix-it shops in chain stores. Oh, and we don't know her admin password.

I'm looking for a reputable computer repair shop in the Phoenix, AZ area. I lent my Compaq laptop (running vista) out to a friend and now it's totally owned by virii, and I don't have the time, patience, wherewithal to fix this level of problem.
Is there a good, independent (not Best Buy) place in town to get this looked at and potentially fixed for a reasonable price? Again, I'm not interested in fixing it myself, I'd rather pay someone else to be frustrated for me.

I need your help to settle a debate. Could you suggest the safest antivirus setup, within the confines of Windows XP and a wireless internet connection, with the
least bloat,
and provide the statistics to prove it?
I need more than simple AV comparatives. I need stats on the virtues of Firefox versus IE, on using two function-differentiated user accounts (admin versus everyday, with the 'everyday' account having no admin privileges), etc. Can you help?

Now that my subscription is approaching its final week Norton is going berserk on my machine. I want to put it out of its misery. I hate it now even more than when it killed Webroot Spysweeper.
Of course I need to get good virus protection before I off Norton. I’ve been following the discussion here and it looks like McAfee offers a good alternative for someone like me who isn’t tech savy.
By the way, I’m just now switching from a dial up connection to Bellsouth DSL.
