The latest version of my anti-virus software includes a new "Phantom VPN" function, which, when active, creates a "private connection" to a "virtual location in the USA." When active, it lists a "% used" statistic determined by a ratio of KB to MB. For example, right now it tells me I'm using "0%", or "219.38kb KB of 500MB Secured Traffic" I would like to know: A) In terms of security, what does a private/Phantom VPN connection accomplish, and is it worth using every time I connect to the internet? B) What does "% used" have to do with functionality? Is the percent KB/MB something I need to pay attention to? Thanks
I have two chromebooks and a Yamaha YPT-320 keyboard. I have been trying like heck and failing at finding a way to record sounds from the keyboard to the chromebook. I would like to record multiple instrumental tracks that I could bring together and mess with in a garageband/ableton type program. [more inside]
I'm fascinated with computers, robotics, and photography. Yet, there's something captivating about IT and Computer Programming. I'm almost finishing up my Social Science bachelor's degree (Sociology), which is pretty worthless from a marketable angle, little job offers. I would like to learn more about IT (Support Services for software) and Computer Programming as well, but I have no background in these two fields. Should I pursue a degree in either of these fields if I have no experience with math and computers? [more inside]

I would like to use my Old Wintec WBT-201 GPS Data logger to keep track where we are taking pictures. Given the limited storage space on the device I want to minimize the amount of data points that are collected. No need to record speed, direction etc. Its just when we are hiking to log every minute or so our location. I can charge the battery but cant' download the data for 12 day's. Using the "Time Machine" software to access the settings page but am confused about the settings. Any advice?

My office has recently had some funds open up and we are looking into investing in some statistical software to make our lives easier. We do a lot of work with distribution fitting, Monte Carlo analysis, and regression analysis with data sets that may contain left or right censored data. Unfortunately, we only have a few days to identify the best software package for our buck. Alternatively, the idea has been floated to download the free R software and spend the money on some training to get over the steep learning curve. What program or approach would be the best use of our money?

I backed up the contents of my ASUS UL50VT laptop in 2011 to my Seagate external hard drive using their Memeo software. In 2012, I connected the Seagate again and ran a second backup, and it created a separate folder where it stored all the new files I'd gained since the previous time. So far, so good. Now when I try to back it up again, it has started from scratch--duplicating the entire contents of my 450 GB laptop to a third folder. I'm gonna use up all my hard drive space this way, stat. Any way to make it back up only the new files again, like it did before?

Ideally, I would like to receive an email at the end of every week, saying I have X number of weeks left.

I have a Mac desktop with OS X 10.6.8 and use Firefox. When I try to download something like CCleaner or updated version of Adobe Flash, I'm unable to do so. Instead I'm told I've chosen to open a binary file, and when I click Save File, a blank box opens with a "Download" label, but then just sits there: a blank white box apparently doing nothing. I wait, and nothing happens. I'm computer dumb, so be gentle. Have I got my settings screwed up, or am I not doing something I should? This has happened a bunch of times when I try to download other stuff. I hate being ignorant. Many thanks if you can help.
