Looking for cheap but easily upgradeable desktop

I want to spend less than $400 to buy a fully functional new desktop. Regardless of the CPU it would have, I want to be able to put in an i7 later on. I want to be able to add more RAM and a powerful video card without having to get a new case or power supply. HDD should be at least 1TB. It can start with 4GB of RAM, since I plan to upgrade. If it's 4GB i'd prefer it to be on a single stick. I would also prefer Windows 10 to be already installed.

Please advise me on a forthcoming computer upgrade

My vintage 2008 Macbook is eagerly gazing at the pasture that has been beckoning it for a few years now. I have replaced the hard-drive and maxed out the RAM, but the poor little guy is simply ready for a well-deserved rest. So - what's next for me and when? Macbook Pro? Air? iMac? iPad? Difficulty level: incorporating moderate music production, Netflix, general web use, somewhat limited funds, and massive over-thinking. [more inside]

Cheap graphics card for 2008 iMac?

Apple iMac A1225 desktop computers from 2008 came with the notoriously unreliable Nvidia 8800GS graphics card that burns out and turns the iMacs into bricks. Getting a new Nvidia 8800GS graphics card costs about $650 for the part. Getting a used one on costs about $300. Is there a cheap alternative -- something that costs, say, $50? As I understand it, the only alternative is the ATI 4850, which go for about $300 used. Yet I find it hard to believe that there are no other graphics card options.

How do I stop a hardware beep in my desktop PC?

My IT Help Desk is stumped - can you help me? My computer is making what I can only describe as a hardware beep that I can't turn off. Muting Windows and disabling all system sounds doesn't work. Yet the beep only happens when I do certain things with the software - at first, it was only when trying to save a document into my virtual system in Word, but recently it's every time an email arrives in Outlook, which is just awful. This didn't used to happen, but once, many months ago, I accidentally pressed a random combination of keys and it started. I have no idea how to turn it off - and neither do the IT people. Computing Menages a Troi

After fifteen years of using a laptop and monitor as my desktop, I'm strongly considering switching over to dual-computer life, trading in my trusty MacBook Pro for a Mac Pro at work, and a MacBook Air at home / on the road. Are there non-obvious (i.e., beyond Dropbox and MobileMe) services, software, or best practices that would make wrangling two computers less of a disaster?

I Can't Wait to Construct Additional Pylons

I'm going to buy a new desktop computer. My budget is up to $1,000. My basic requirement is that it must play Starcraft 2 on high settings at 60fps.
