I want to make sculpture with repurposed sheet steel, say 10 to 20 gauge. Probably from old cars, which is on the thin end of that spectrum, but I'd like a little leeway. Tired of waiting for my friend's friend to loan me a plasma cutter, so I'm (gulp) shopping. Do I need the
$1400 Powermax 30 or will I be satisfied with the
RAMSOND CUT50DY on sale for $500? The guy at the shop I called recommended the
$1400 Miller Spectrum 375 X-Treme, which is about when I realized I'm in over my head. What about the
$800 Hobart Airforce 500534 250ci, which, unlike the others, includes a built in air compressor? I'm not rich, and this is not for heavy industrial use, but I'd very much like something that works and works well on 120v current. I may well be using this on the sidewalk in front of my apartment, so I'd like it to be relatively portable. Also I'd rather it didn't kill me or anyone else. Merci bien!

I would like to make a 40 second long outro to a promo video, in which the clip gets smaller, and as it does so, other clips around it come into frame. So, it starts with one clip, shrinks to a grid of 9 clips (3x3 grid), then to 25 clips (5x5 grid), and then the whole thing shrinks to reveal the image behind it. I have an idea that doesn't hurt my head to think about, but what's the easiest method? I'm thinking of doing
this. Better explanation inside.

The side-by-side fridge in our rental (a GE tfx22zrs, tfx22jrs) has been failing to keep the refrigerator side cool (freezer side works fine). I think I have traced this down to some kind of lightbulb short -- the bulb heats up so much, so fast, I presume it is keeping the food from getting cool; possible fuse problem? Do fridges have user-serviceable fuses? Or is this a compressor problem and the lightbulb a red herring?

What is an affordable air compressor and spray gun combination? I'm not sure about how powerful a compressor I'll need. Also, I'm planning on keeping it down the basement and running the hose up through the floor. Is there a way to turn the compressor on and off without having to venture downstairs? (I'm in an apartment and the basement door is outside) I've seen things that allow you to shut off lights with a remote control. Maybe something similar to that?
