My boyfriend is a professional film composer/pianist in L.A. tired of booking his own gigs and occasionally having to hound filmmakers for money. Does anyone know of a good manager or agent who deals with film composers? [more inside]

Why are Gilbert & Sullivan so popular today, at least compared to other light opera composers? I find it hard to believe that they were the only ones creating works in that vein; so why is it that today they're the only ones we remember? [more inside]

[New-Classical-Music Filter] What are your favorite pieces from the last few decades (or have you written anything) for solo trumpet, trombone, bass tbn, or tuba? Seeking scores and/or recordings to study (online availability would be a huge plus). Small-chamber works, other than brass quintet, would be great too. Asking because I haven't written for brass insts. except in orchestra/large-ensemble contexts, and I want to explore solo/chamber writing for them. Yes, I'll also get what I can from newmusicjukebox. Thanks!

Should I finally join ASCAP, despite my misgivings about copyright, the music-licensing industry, and certain practices by ASCAP and similar orgs? Yes, the cash would make a real difference for me, given the way ASCAP handles my genre and given my low income overall.

I'm looking for a piece of neo-classical music called "The Locks" or "The Lock" but can't find it anywhere. Unfortunately I don't remember the composer. Anybody heard of it?

What is this tune, and who is it by?
(I thought it was the Olympic Fanfare, but I checked and was wrong, and now I'm kinda stumped. Sorry to always be unable to identify tunes...)
