Does anyone have any recommendations for somewhat recent (post-2000) TV or movie popular music soundtracks (or some other kind of compilation)? I tend to like alternative rock, but I'm open to any genre. [more inside]

Favourite compilation CDs? These are my ultimate way to find new music - so many hidden jewels! I've liked many of the MoS Chillout Sessions, Hed Kandi Winter Chill, a couple of Ultra Trance; and I love Kruder & Dorfmeister K&D Sessions. All suggestions welcome, as long as you think they're genius!

I've fallen in love with music compilations and boxed sets. From the new Nuggets box to Night Train to Nashville to No Thanks, I'm just cuckoo. There are so many, though, in so many different genres, it's difficult to seperate out what's really worthwhile. Their cost makes blind purchasing too dicey for my tastes. So I come to Mefi: what music compilations or box sets can you recommend?

Every year I put together a 'best of' comp' to hand out to holiday guests. This year I'm drawing a blank. Fiery Furnaces- sure, Wolf Eyes- Maybe. Mirah, again, this year? I'm having a hard time finding the anthems of 2004. Maybe today's songwriters got too swept up in the election to write a classic 'head-nodder'? Maybe I just got to caught up in the election to listen? Can you help? What's your best pick of the year?
