Pretty basic. Applied for a job in a technical field. It said, degree required so I was surprised I got an email and it looked like a three person interview set up pretty quickly. Then it got weird. [more inside]
They have moved very quickly: red flag? How much stock should I place in Glassdoor reviews? Is any "consultant" title a useful foot in the door to the industry? Is this uninspiring salary reasonable given my background? Intricacies below the fold. [more inside]

Last Year my housemate (and good friend) spilt tea on my laptop and it broke. The laptop was about 2 years old and worth $1300.00. At the time he couldn't afford to pay me anything, and as I was low on cash myself I replaced it with cheaper tablet option, worth $450.00. A year has now passed and he is in a better position to pay me back- What do you think is a fair amount given the worth of the 2 year old laptop and the amount I spent replacing it?
I currently have two job offers: one from a startup and one from a large corporation. I'm strongly considering taking the position with the startup and have negotiated on compensation already, but would like to ask for another increase. Please help me navigate this! [more inside]

Asking on behalf of a friend: May be transferred from the US to Australia shortly. What should I be looking for in a relocation package? Special snowflake details inside that may affect your answer! I have been transferred around the US a lot and thus know how to assess a relocation package when it's from point A to point B in the US - and, most importantly, I know when it's not enough and I need to hold out for more. I've never been transferred overseas and the only thing I know right now is that a relo package like the ones I get in the States would probably be insufficient. What should I be looking for? So my annual review will be coming up in a few months. My job title is "Software Support Engineer." I'm making something in the 30-40k range, which is a good amount for someone with as little experience as I've got (I just started in IT about 2 years ago.) Prepping for my annual review, I bought one of those Salary.com employer salary survey reports. Median pay listed for a "Software Support Engineer I" is $63k! Am I underpaid, or am I really a "Technical Support Representative II" or whatever, and just have a cool job-title? [more inside]

Please refer me to someone who will help my parents write a rebuttal letter to a workmans comp denial letter
My parents asked for my help in writing a rebuttal letter (due by April 17th) to a denial of service claim against workmans comp, but I am not qualified to write the letter. My parents will go ahead and do this on their own, but I want them to seek the advice of a professional. Please help me find one. [more inside]
Is $50 off of my next month's rent ($395 monthly) a fair rent voucher to compensate for a flooded bedroom, loss of the use of that room and sleeping on my futon for a week? I've had to do the same for 2-3 days twice in the past couple months too due to moisture and water seeping into the foundation of this basement apartment.
How Can I, Early in the Process, Make Sure a Potential Employer and I Aren't Way Too Far Apart in the Potential Salary for a Position?
Does formal, or politely euphemistic, language exist by which, early on in the job-hunt process, you can make sure you and a potential employer aren't considering salary ranges that are half a planet apart? [more inside]
My fiancée is only 24 years old, but she has osteoarthritis (see this previous question). As a result, she has a lot of pain, particularly in her back, but she is just generally sore all over. We suspect that her job (customer service in busy cafe with a lot of heavy manual work thrown in behind the scenes in the kitchen and store rooms) may have exacerbated her condition because before she started there, she never felt the sort of pain she feels now after just two years of working there. We're thinking maybe we should get a personal injury lawyer and see if we have a case. Do the medical and legal minds of the hive think we do, too? [more inside]
