I'm using Serif PagePlus SE, a free graphic design download, to design postcards. My local print production shop can't open the .ppp files it creates. There are no other "save as" options. Any suggestions?

I'm in the middle of grabbing all the parts to build a new PC for myself. I have pretty much all the components, but I can't figure out which kind of memory I need to go with an Core 2 Duo E8500 (3.16GHz) and ASUS P5Q-E. I've looked at both Intel's and Asus's websites, and of course the Google to no avail. Details on what I'm looking for inside. [more inside]

This may be an easy one (at least I hope so - and no, it hasn't been easy for me). Is there a site, or more than one site, that is somewhat devoted to compatibilities in hardware? I'm looking at notebook cdrw/dvd-rom (slim) drives and it would be nice to know which models will - ostensibly, anyway - work with which laptops. Help if you can. Thanks.

I recall reading (online maybe) an article that discussed something like the top 8 things that a couple needs to be in agreement upon for the greatest chance of a successful marriage. Money was obviously one of them, but I'd like to see the whole list again. Ring any bells?

Any good suggestions on a Media Center OS for my main tower? WMCE would be my optimal choice (I won an Xbox 360 from Mt. Dew, and I wanna use it's full functionality). However, I also have a modded xbox to use as a frontend. Oh, and by media center, what I really mean is TiVo like setup. Any other functionality is gravy. [more inside]

Let's say that I got a new computer without MS Office on it and I install Open Office. Let's also say a person sends me a Word or Excel file via email. Will I be able to read it and edit it in Open Office without messing up the format? If I make any changes to the file and email it back to my friend, will he be able to read it and make further edits to it while using the Microsoft Office applications?

About a 2 years ago, I found a free 2-person compatibility test online which I took with my then-boyfriend. It gave us really detailed, pretty non-generic results with accurate, insightful comments. I seem to remember that there were charts and graphs that looked a bit like ennegrams or learning styles inventories. I've tried several times to use my best google-fu to find this test, but no luck-- only a bunch of crappy compatibility tests that didn't provide much insight. Any leads?

Why are seemingly no IM clients compatible with each other for anything other than chat? (i.e., file transfer, image insertion, file transfer, oh, and also file transfer.) I'm not talking about Y!IM vs. AIM here -- I'm talking about the various clients that all use AOL's IM service. Even the open-source clients have this problem. Why wasn't this problem solved years ago?

PhoneFilter: I am thinking of buying a US-sold cordless phone and bringing it back to Europe. Other than voltage and frequency (which I've checked) is there any other reason why an American phone wouldn't work or work less in Europe (different ring-tone signals or Caller ID standards perhaps)?

I recently got an Ipaq for an early xmas present. It's neat and all...but I really don't like that you cannot use an alternate web browser or email client. Does anyone know if Mozilla has their web browser ready for the Ipaq yet? Or an email client? Or does anyone have any software advice for Ipaq?

Thanks!

Are any flavors of Linux currently more adept at exploiting the AMD64 chip than others? I know that Gentoo has a robust package available. Last I check with Debian, they had one version better suited for the Intel, but were working on AMD-specific one. To compound my problem, I hope to add VMWare once it's up and running (to run WindowsXP as a virtual 32-bit OS).

Speaking of NAV ... I just bought the Norton Security Suite and am about to install it. I lack a cruft cleaner (Norton's CleanSweep seems to be only available in a bundle I don't want). Thus: I'm looking at MacAfee's "QuickClean". I'm worried that it will trip over Norton's stuff since it appears they both monitor a few of the same things.

Regarding PageMaker/InDesign compatibility: I am the production editor at my university's yearbook and we have traditionally done all our design work in Pagemaker, I prefer InDesign. Is there anyway to save InDesign files as pmds or open them in PM or is it a one way thing?
