For a long time now I've been aching to feel part of a larger community. Have you ever felt this way? How did you handle it? Have you ever built or been a part of a tight-knit social circle or community that lasted?

I have never played D&D before, but last week's
Community looked super fun and interesting (not to mention, what a great episode) I've hit up some friends who used to play and there's some interest about getting a game going. But I literally know nothing, and don't know if I'm going to like it. How do I proceed?

My community group needs a website and I've been given the job of setting it up. We need to sell tickets to events, keep track of membership dues/renewals, have some basic info pages, photos, etc. Right now we've working with Paypal, some spreadsheets, and a very out of date website (has a geocities era look to it). I have 20 hours to devote to this project, and have some very rusty coding experience. I know I can't build this myself. Are there ready to go solutions out there?

I'm interested in checking out the local hackerspace -- partly out of interest in doing stuff there, partly because they do work that's similar to ours (they work with adults, we work with kids). Their pricing policy is very expensive and only seems to make a token effort to reach out to low-income people like myself. They've expressed interest in meeting and getting to know us -- I'm excited about this, but am also really personally affronted by their pricing scheme. How do I get over this so we can have a conversation?

There's a
gardener coming to speak at the library I work on next month and I thought I would also organise a veggie swap afterwards. So the publicity has gone out, my neighbours are coming and there has been interest from the local council and environment groups who are interested in starting their own if it goes well. My problem is I'm not sure how to practically run it. Should I issue tickets roughly based on market value when people drop off their produce or should I let it go for a free for all working on a trust basis.
Anyone run one of these before? Any advise in general?

How do bloggers or community websites deal with comments from new users which are on-topic for the site but off-topic for the current conversation? It happens regularly on my blog. Deletion seems harsh: if the person is interested in the subject it seems like a missed opportunity to get a new member and teach them how to use the internet appropriately. What are some alternatives?
