You can have my eyes or my brain, but not both...

They say you should look people in the eyes when you're talking to them. But I'm unable to think while looking another person in the eyes. This leaves me in a position where either 1) I have to look away while I'm thinking/talking, occasionally glancing at the person - which makes me appear shifty; or 2) I look the person in the eyes and stupid or at least ineloquent things come out of my mouth. Can I solve this? Which is the lesser evil? [more inside]

the language barrier

You're talking to some people about computers when you realize that somehow, they know even less than you do. How do you figure out what they need to hear? How do you phrase it clearly, simply and accurately, but not condescendingly? How do you know when you're screwing that up, and how do you recover? And conversely, when people talk to you about computers, how do you figure out what they mean even when they are using a different set of jargon from what you've learned, or incorrect jargon, or plain don't themselves know what they mean? Long Distance Love Affair

several years ago I met a man and we had a brief relationship. We've maintained a friendship through other relationships. We have both always been honest about our attraction to each other but live a few hours drive away from each other. Recently my circumstances changed and as it happens we are both available. We both are interested in seeing each other and he said he'd be willing to move as an eventuality if things work out. As it stands with our jobs it works out so that technically we could see one another twice a month if we wanted to. I have a few questions for the hive, what are ways people in a long distance relationship can stay close, Has anyone out there had a successful transition after moving in together, and has anyone not tried and regretted it? Emotional intelligence and ability to be in a relationship

My bf calls me cold. I am 29 and he is 34. The only other time this has happened to me was when I was a child. My grandmother and aunt (they raised me) used the same word to describe me. I generally consider myself an emotional person. Not touchy feely or especially warm. But, at any given moment I can laugh about anything or cry about something. I can intuit other peoples moods easily. I am definitely an introvert and would hardly ever choose to spend time with other people if I can be alone. I love to be alone. These days my relationship with my family is pretty good. I see them every couple of weeks. I don’t have friends and I am not social but I do get along with people without any problems. [more inside]

How do we get our realtor to talk?

In January we moved across the country and put our house on the market. Our realtor is a friend of the family. I had misgivings about using a friend, but, he has helped us a lot in the last few years and I felt we should go with him. Since January he has contacted us twice, once to tell us about an open house and another time to ask a few questions from potential buyers. I email him about once a month and usually have to wait 2 - 3 days for a response. Often the response does not address our questions. Instead we get a brief personal greeting followed by what feels like a form response. I want to address his lack of communication, but, as this is the first time I've sold a house, I don't know what is reasonable to expect from a realtor. What level of communication is reasonable to expect given our location/situation?
