I'm writing a book. I want to draw very simple black & white comic strip style cartoon drawings to go with it. PROBLEM: I can't draw. Heck, I don't even doodle. But I can learn! What books/websites/iTunes U/online classes/etc are out there? Got any advice or knowhow to pass along? Help me get started! [more inside]

I'd like to read some great old Marvel comics. The only reprinted compilations that I've seen in bookstores are the Essentials, which are in black and white (when the whole point is how colourful they are), and the Masterpiece series, which are expensive, and the colours don't look right when printed on the shiny paper. Is there any way to get reprints in colour on newsprint? I know there was at one point, since I first encountered the Fantastic Four in Archie's-double-digest-like format.
I'm looking for a book that was out around 1997 (the last time I remember physically seeing it) that detailed lots of different mechanical machines Chris Ware had designed/made, many of them coin-operated. I really should've just coughed up and bought it right then, because I've never laid eyes on it since, and no bookshop staff have been able to identify it. Do you know what book this is, or what it's part of, and if by chance it's still in print? [more inside]

Anybody a Chris Ware expert out there? I'm trying to determine if I have a first printing of Acme Novelty Library #1. It's got a $3.50 cover price, but says nothing anywhere about which printing it is (though much of the text is so tiny it's hard to see). It DOES say "issue 1 volume 4" in one spot, but I don't think this has to do with printing _ I don't think there were more than three printings. I'm duking it out with a pal over this -- and I really want to be right! Thanks.

How do I go about getting some of my stories made into comics? [more inside]
A few years back I found a website that listed out all the comics that Marvel has published throughout their history in a year by year basis. The page was set up in a very basic HTML grid format, but it was amazingly comprehensive. I need to find it to calm my anal retentive impulse to read all my back issues in chronological order. It was not Mike's Amazing World of Marvel Comics as much as I do love that site, it just isn't quite enough to fulfill my completist nature. Help?
Like every other kid born in the 1980's I collected comic books, baseball cards, comic cards and MtG cards. Also, like ever other kid born in the 1980's I was a absolutely certain to become rich by holding onto these things for the coming years. We were all wrong and we all still have them in our closets. I realize that they are worth very little since everyone kept these 'collectibles' closely guarded so supply outpaces any possible demand but still I'm sure there must be a handful of slightly valuable finds in the entire lot. Does any service exist where I give them my 'collectibles', they sort through everything and give me a honest appraisal or offer?
What's the best way of showing my work to publishers at Small Press Expo? I have a portfolio of dozens of medium-sized narrative drawings from which I'd like to pick 10-12 to show. Is it best to e-mail ahead before the event to reserve time? To go to the event and ask when they'd be free to review them? I know how busy the SPX floor can get on a Saturday afternoon, so I'd like to hear from those who've tried there, at other shows and in general.

What are some of the best Shockers or Twists in mainstream comics? I'm trying to come up with some surprise reveals that were genuine in your typical superhero comic (Marvel/DC), instead of shocks for the sake of shocking. I've tried TVTropes, but those are too specific and spread out over countless tropes. I'm looking for what the hive mind considers the best twist, shocks or more specifically "reveals" in superhero comics. Most will be revealing a secret identity, but it doesn't have to be. I will put more weight on something that is an evolution of the comic as opposed to simply tying up a loose end of an individual story.
