I work in a lab with rhesus monkeys. They need names. For reasons of historical precedent and notational convenience, lab animals are usually named alphabetically, from A ("Abe") until you run out of monkeys. For reasons of awesomeness, we're naming our monkeys after spunky cartoon characters. So, please help me come up with the best comic/cartoon/superhero names for each letter of the alphabet. Portable comic readers. I'm looking for a USB-connectable device on which I can throw .cbr and .cbz (or .rar and .zip respectively) files onto it, and be able to view them on the device the same way CDisplay does on the PC. What affordable devices are capable of doing this? Think Kindle, but for comics. [more inside]

In Nashville TN there is a great place called The Great Escape which used to, and may still, sell crappy old comic books for 15 to 25 cents apiece. Is there such a place in the NYC area?

I get to take an inventory of my work's comic library. Fun, yes - but also... Yikes. There has to be a better way to track our comics than this clunky excel spreadsheet. And I'm no wiz at filemaker. Is there a free/cheap software that can help? [more inside]

I'm trying to remember what the name of an comic strip available online I saw several years ago. It was set in college and the main character was male and outlandish, always doing crazy things, etc. Towards end of the run, he doesn't like the "script" so he decides to make big changes before the comic ends, including leaving his wife and child. Any ideas? [more inside]

Is there a good way to do cartoon speech balloons? I sometimes toss together cheap cartoons in an old version of Paintshop Pro. What's the best way of doing this, aside from hacking up something with an ellipse tool? Are there usable clip art samples out there I can import & paste? I'm sure there's a Photoshop plugin for this kind of thing, but I don't have Photoshop.
