My husband and I have a longstanding dream of driving cross country on the small highways and byways of America. As we inch closer to this reality (we're now fairly firmly looking at doing this in five years, when our son is old enough to remember the trip), we've started doing the financial planning for it. My question to you: What is the best car (type or brand) for a very tall family of three to drive across America in? [more inside]

PlanMyMealFilter: I've had a fairly miserable couple of days and feel like cooking something soothing/comforting/delicious tonight, but am tired of my usual fallback, mac-n-cheese. What are your recipes for your favorite comfort foods? Nothing tooooo complex (it's getting late, after all) but I wouldn't mind concentrating for a while on something that isn't super-depressing. Only dietary restriction is no soy or cumin.

I received a small gift packet of branded "Southern Comfort" coffee for Christmas. It is really good but all I can find is more little gift packets for sale. Anyone know where I can get a larger quantity or a very similar tasting coffee? (I think it has a citrus like flavor)

How can I get a suntan on my back and use my laptop at the same time comfortably? I guess I'm looking for some contraption that lets me comfortably lie on my stomach while having my arms and neck free to type and view. Also interested in indoor options which allow laptop use lying face down. Comfort enabling options for other postures also welcome.

My friend is dying of cancer. It's just a matter of time before she goes since she has stopped receiving treament. She is bedridden, can't see and is too weak to talk but she can still hear. What can I do for her on our visits to help her get through the day? Are there massage services out there (NYC)? Should I read her a book - what's a good title? Should I ask her family if they will allow me to play some CDs for her - any suggestions? Your input is greatly appreciated.

My MP3 player came with a pair of earbuds, the kind that basically look like tiny headphones with foam covers and sit in the cleft of the ear right in front of the canal. The sound is terrific, but I find them uncomfortable for periods of time over 40 minutes or so, and usually end up switching to a more comfortable pair of overear phones that don't get quite as good sound. Do you have any tips for making these more comfortable? Are my ears just the wrong shape?

What is the name of the curve or theory illustrating humans' comfort level with robots that look like people? Example: the more a robot looks like a person, the more uncomfortable people are in its presence, but the moment an artificial being is absolutely indistinguishable from the real thing, the comfort level goes back to normal. My Googling leads me nowhere, but I seem to recall reading about this somewhere on MeFi...

Funerals - I've been asked to read at a relatives funeral (my grandfather who was very old, and quite sick)...and I've spent most of this weekend reading poetry books and searching online for suitable things to read. Now I turn to the well read people at MeFi - I'm looking for two things, one to commemorate a long life... and one to celebrate the fact that he may be meeting up with his wife again...
What are your recommendations for poetry resources? Or even specific poems you have read/heard for these occasions?
(I'm no writer - so I'm nervous about attempting something myself - apart from an introduction which will be simple and brief.)
