The standard format for a romantic comedy has both key characters introduced very early in the script/movie -- say, in the first ten pages/minutes. I'm looking for examples of romantic comedies where one of the romantic leads is introduced later in the movie. [more inside]

Name-that-movie time! Bumbling dad switches on over-the-top Christmas lights, causing the house to go up in flames and massive disappointment. A colleague and I were discussing Christmas movies and we both thought of this scene but we can't remember the movie it came from. It's probably a well-known US comedy (like Home Alone
or Honey I shrunk the kids
) from the 1980-1990s. This should be a piece of cake but my Google/IMDb/Tvtropes-fu fails me.

French Movie Name.
I just can't remember the name of that french movie, it's happens entirely in one night in all over Paris. There was a football (soccer) match, some guys were watching it on a TV in the street, the guy or someone near him broke it and they wanted to kill him and the movie went all insane going all over the place and all over Paris with people getting killed all over the place (for what I can remember).

Can you think of a movie in which a doddering old servant makes his way, at painful and ridiculous low speed, across a room carrying a tray of drinks?

I'm directing a farce with a bunch of high-schoolers, and would love to give them some movie suggestions to look at for characters. They are pretty classic comic archetypes, but my brain is reeling a bit trying to think of all of them, and though I'd put it out to the hive mind. The only catch is that I can't really suggest any R-Rated movies, because most of them aren't old enough to watch them... [more inside]

Just saw Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist. I feel like the storyline, (i.e. guy/girl is hung up on his/her good-looking-yet-lame ex, meets a smart cool new person, and ends up rejecting their old flame for said new love interest when old flame gets jealous / comes around too late), has been used plenty to the point of cliche. Problem is, I can't think of any examples! Can anyone give me some? Thanks!
