I have Firefox 3 color options set so that visited links turn a dark Grey when clicked, every site seems to work with this but the sender and subject lines in Gmail.. What's strange is the links on the left hand side of the Gmail page (Inbox, starred, sent mail, drafts, etc ) go dark when clicked on. Does anyone know if Google uses some special CSS or something on the right hand side, can this be overridden so the visited links will turn the Grey I have checked?

In the continuum of visible-light colors that makes a rainbow, we have red, orange, ... blue, indigo, and violet. But aestheticists tend to join the two ends together to make a "color wheel". They use this to predict pairs, trios, or quads of colors that are symmetrically placed in the wheel and therefore look nice or bad together. But, why does the continuum map to a circle at all? Tomorrow I'm giving a lecture about color -- specifically, I'm talking to designers about how to create color palettes. The talk is more concerned with aesthetics (i.e. what color combinations are striking) than tools (i.e. how to pick colors in Photoshop). But there will be some tools talk. Since there are many designers here, I'd love to know all your color-related tips. As the Xmas season is coming, I am sharing one of my own tips inside... [more inside]

How do I choose colors such that adjacent colors do not appear similar and that any given color is easily distinguished from the others? If you know of a good algorithm for choosing the set of colors or can point to an example of someone doing this well I would appreciate it.
Also it would be nice if the result were not ugly.

I am familiar with many of the sites on the web which generate a color palette from any given base color, but I don't understand how they determine which colors "go" with each other. What's the theory behind this? Is there any easy way to generate this kind of palette in Photoshop, Freehand, Fireworks, etc.?

Woke up this morning and my Sony Trinitron monitor looked weird. The colors are washed out, almost like a layer of white was put on top of it and the opacity was dropped way down. I degaussed it, turned it off, pulled the plug... nothing helps. Any ideas or is my wondermonitor dead?

To me, grey and gray are two different colors, not just two different spellings of the same color. I've asked a few friends, and so far I'm pretty much alone in my perceptions. Does anybody else think of two different colors depending on the spelling used?
