We've just acquired a second colocation facility for redundancy and for geopolitical separation of our services (in other words, Canadian customers on Canadian boxes, US customers on US boxes for many pain in the ass reasons I won't get into here.). Our office is in Canada and the second colo facility is in Seattle. What sort of fresh hell will we unleash by taking servers purchased here across the border?

Is there a list of datacenter projects that have been built from a green-field state to take advantage of a guaranteed low per kilowatt-hour electrical rate? In particular I'm thinking of the big Google facility near The Dalles, Oregon and the Microsoft datacenter in a small eastern Washington town. Both were built in areas with excess capacity originally intended to serve large Aluminum smelters.

Looking at setting up a simple web site (no CGI) but needs to be up 24/7 and reasonably disaster proof (earthquake, hurricane, regional fires, etc.). Hosting company needs to be multisite with automagic failover assuming one site goes down.

Help me find and resolve a traffic bottleneck at my co-location. We launched a new web-app (it registers users and delivers flash content) at my work and the server fell over at about 17 conn/sec. Help me prevent this from happening again.

I have a webserver colocated in Los Angeles, where I live. I am moving to New York in a few months and I'm wondering if I should take the server with me. I have a ridiculously great deal at my current facility. How big of a deal is it to have a server in colocation in a far away location?
(The server has RAID 1 and hot-swap drives, if that helps.)
