CD promotional review aggregator?

Where can I find those nifty CD promotional reviews online? When I volunteered at my local college radio station, the promotional CDs we received would often have small review blurbs stuck to the cases. The reviews would list some of the qualities of the music as well as a RIYD/RIYL list of similar artists. There were several different companies who would do this, but I can’t remember any of their names.

I found these to be very helpful and informative because 1) The artists they covered were mostly unknown or just starting out and 2) Were preferable to a music magazine review because they always focused on the positive aspects of the music. While I enjoy a bit of snobbish musical snarkery every once in a while, in the end it really doesn’t help me in discovering new music (and often leaves me feeling bitter).

Is there a site online where I can read these reviews? Bonus points if they have an RSS feed!

College Radio Singles Chart

Is there an American College Radio singles chart? Not necessarily singles, but individual tracks that are receiving the most airplay. There was this, but it seems long since abandoned.

To date, all I can find are Album charts.

College Radio, Reloaded

What does it take to get an internet radio station to appear in the "Radio" section of the iTunes software? Or, how do I help a college set up an internet radio station? The president of the radio station at the college I work at has asked me to help establish a streaming component to the station website, which I administer. We have a server (running Fedora, if that matters) collocated in Equinix Ashburn, with sufficient bandwidth to do this, but I'm unsure of what software they need to run in the studio to accomplish this, nor am I sure how we would get the station listed in the iTunes radio thinger.

Thanks!

'Something something....the...something..'

Yet another...help me find a this song after I supply you with really vague details about it question. But come on, it's fun! Alright so I have been wracking my brain off and on for a few years now, trying to remember a song that I used to love. I have spent way too much time in the past two days entering random bands into itunes trying to find it, so I am turning to you. I will give you as much detail as I remember.

-Got a lot of play on Boston college radio in the spring/summer of 1998. Specifically it was either on WMBR or WERS as my radio rarely left those stations.

-Song description: Sort of pop-y/phsycadelic love song with a I believe a male vocalist. I remember a high pitched refrain of 'You and I together' and then maybe a reference to the moon and possibly a spoon. Then maybe a line like 'And we all.....something something' and maybe a mention of a field or fields.

-I remember a year later when trying to find the song I mistakenly purchased a Belle & Sebastian 'Boy with the Arab Strap' CD thinking that that was the group. It wasn't.

-Bands and names that pop into my head when trying to remember: Arab Strap, Spoon, Belle and Sebastian...I guess thats it.

If it helps here is one of the weekly playlists from WMBR from that time period: Playlist
And the rest of their playlists: Here

Recording a streaming webcast?

Scheduling and recording an ASX webcast with freeware? In a few weeks, I will be on my college's radio show. My family and friends have expressed interest in listening to it, but aren't available for my time slot. There is an .ASX webcast, but it isn't recorded, merely streamed. I'm looking for a free (I am a college student) software to record the webcast as an MP3 (or not, as I've found many free converters). The webcast will be an hour long, and as I won't be on my computer to set it up, it needs to be able to schedule when to record. I have Vista on my desktop and Windows XP on my laptop though I'd much rather use the desktop as the laptop is extremely slow and prone to freezing at crucial moments. I found a program that can schedule and record here, but it's $18 (I'm really trying to avoid spending any money) and the trial inserts noise every 60 seconds.

Any suggestions appreciated.

College radio wants us, but doesn't know it yet

How to get a band played on US college radio? My firend's band released their first album a couple of months ago and the first two singles have had some airplay on independent radio here in Australia. We've heard about the US college radio stations in the media etc. but how does one get exposure to them?
Is it simply the case of sending each station a CD? In Australia there are (small-time, independent) PR agent types who manage that process, is the same true in the US? Any links, anecdotes or tips would be appreciated. They are called Josh Orange and have a myspace page should listening to them help, or assist with genres etc.

What radio shows should I do?

Radio show themes needed! I do a weekly, two-hour show for a college radio station. Recently, I've begun using weekly themes; for instance, this was last weeks "Drug & Booze" show, while the week before was "Anti-Valentines." I find that using a theme keeps me focused in terms of programming. Sadly, I have no idea what to do this week- any ideas and sample songs?

Recommend college radio stations I can listen to online?

I'm a big fan of college radio and alternative music - even though I live in London I listen to the morning music show on LA's KCRW almost every day. Does anyone know of other such stations who have good, solid, music shows, possibly featuring live sets, and crucially - that broadcast on a broadband stream?
