For 529 plans, when is enough, enough?

I've been saving big into a college fund since my child was born 8 years ago, on the order of $900 per month. I recently checked the 529 plan that was receiving the funds and it is currently at $90k. There is still a decade before the child would enter college, and by most estimates that could mean a doubling and a bit more if market averages do ok. My investment guy says a kid in the year 2022 might need $300k for tuition at a prestigious college and that I should continue. I think I'm pretty well set for now and it could be around $200k by then with no added input. Should I continue putting money away in this account or should I divert that into my own retirement (which is doing well too, but could always be better)? Or contribute less? When is enough enough for college?

So i'm frugal, but what's next ?

I am a frugal person entering his senior year in college [age 21]. I have been following advice like the stuff in thread 84915and thread 99852 and living below my means. I sought advice in Financial books for college kids my age [for example, generation debt], but left feeling wanting more because they focus primarily on how to cut expenses [skipping the latte, etc]. So, I have some student loans already, but will need more for my senior year. I also have some money set aside, but I should I use this money to lower the loan amount that I'll take out or use this money for an investment (Roth IRA, index fund), and take out more for my student loans ? Can I claim my tuition payment on this year's taxes?

I attended my last semester of college in the spring of this previous year and paid about $6k in tuition, some in January and some in February. When I got my 1080-T from my university, though, it said that I could only claim $414 (about one credit's worth) on my taxes for this year. It seems like this is because they billed me for the semester before the end of 2006, and put it on my 1080-T for last year. Since I actually paid them this year, though, can I claim it on this year's taxes? [more inside]
