Good news: I know I want to teach. Bad-ish news: Which route do I take?

I am an editor and writer with a BA and an MA. I've been accepted to at least one of the PhD in rhetoric/communication programs I've applied to—and fully funded (albeit with a limited stipend, but that's to be expected). If I decide to go, I start this fall. However, I can't shake the feeling that maybe I want to be teaching high school language arts. But do I really? [more inside]

Should I take a pre-college gap year?

I'm a senior in high school, and I'm thinking about taking a gap year. I have half-decent web development skills. My plan is to go to some other city, get a job or internship as a web developer, and live by myself for a year. Maybe spend a few months traveling elsewhere around the country/world. Is this a good idea? [more inside]

I don't remember much of High School, but I don't believe my transcripts that I was on the Ladies' Tennis Team.

My high school transcripts have major errors in them and no one in the school system wants to help me fix them! I'm pretty sure I had more than a 0.0 GPA and I know wasn't on the girls' tennis team! (I'm a guy, I think I would remember the skirts!) Will this effect my chances at returning to college? [more inside]

Choose Your Own Adventure Game

I want to do an exercise with my high school students to help them understand the benefits of having going to college, like a 'Choose Your Own Adventure' type of game, where they go through a series of life events and the options they have available to them are based on the level of education (hs dropout, hs graduate, associates, bachelors, masters, PhD, professional) that I've assigned to them. Does something like this already exist or do you have any suggestions for types of questions/scenarios I can ask them? [more inside]
