There has been a lot of talk about an imminent financial markets bubble
and I find that I am heavily invested in the S&P500 through an IRA (rolled over from a 401K after I was laid off). I also have a relatively small amount invested through a standard brokerage account, but the majority is in the IRA. I don't know jack about sigma events or black swans, but I can recognize when the chatter is starting to form a cohesive message. I also know that I have a ton more exposure now than in 2009. In fact, the post crash boom years have been quite good to me. My question is obviously, is there a proven strategy to protect against a coming financial crash? At what point do I pull the trigger and put everything into bonds? Is there a hedge against a collapse? My fantasy is that I pick the right time to pull everything and then clean up post crash on rock bottom blue chip stocks. [more inside]
I am looking for fiction or non-fiction books (or movies - documentaries or fiction) about societies that are collapsing or falling apart -- anything from the late Roman Empire to 1990s Yugoslavia. I'm especially interested in books or movies that focus on the lives of regular people while the collapse is happening.
I am specifically NOT looking for sci-fi dystopias or fantasy novels, so please don't recommend any.
I'm looking for articles on the depopulation of US cities, I've seen some on detroit & chicago and the renewal efforts for sustainability, but am unable to find them through google, and help would suffice!

I live in norther New Jersey. I have planted a lot of flower and herbs in my yard this spring. I also have a vegetable garden which is full of blossoms. I keep my yard herbicide and pesticide free. I see plenty of bumble bees, dragon flies, and butterflies in the garden. I don't, however, see any honey bees. Is this the wrong season and / or am I looking at the wrong time of the day or has colony collapse disorder gotten so bad in this area there are none left?
I'm looking for a really good book that describes AIG's collapse, and the reasons for it. Do you have any recommendations?
Alternatively, how can I educate myself on it, besides reading Wikipedia?
Thanks in advance!
