I saw this coat while out and about, and I liked it a lot, but I was too shy to ask the woman wearing it where she bought it. Can you help me figure it out, if that's even possible? In real life, it was a bit more mustard and less brown than the photo suggests. Thanks in advance, sleuths of fashion!
Many years of Anglophilic TV-watching have left me with a clothing question. What's the deal with the light brown, mid-length, indoor overcoat that certain British workers wear? [more inside]
Where can I find a coat just like the one Sinead O'Conner wore in the Nothing Compares to U video? Extra Hard Level: Plus size 14/16. [more inside]
I see a lot of lightweight articles of dubious scientific merit claiming that one should not shave down a dog's coat in the summer because it actually helps keep it cool during the summer. Can someone point me to actual science that upholds or refutes this claim? [more inside]
I want to replace my winter coat and have some very picky requirements. Here they are, with the most important ones first: [more inside]
I've been trying to buy a navy peacoat for 3 years. I'm a man. I have some requirements:
- At least 80% but preferably 100% wool.
- 6 or 8 showing oversized "fouled anchor" naval buttons.
- Big-ass lapels.
- Handwarmer pockets only - no hip pockets. No flap pockets.
- Navy blue, not black.
Ok, so I'm light years behind and finally watching season 5 of Game of Thrones. I need Ellaria Sand's cape in my life yesterday (and quite honestly, the entire outfit). [more inside]
Washable: Will wash and dry at home every 1-2 weeks. Warm: Minneapolis, MN. Winsome: Flexible on specific styles, but aesthetics are important to me. I'm not sure what's trending this winter, but I'm ready to branch out from my puffer coat phase. Women's: Early 30's eclectic, post-hipster 5' 8" slim-ish build lady. Winter Wear: Coat or Parka, casual. (Overcoats need not apply). [more inside]
My old pea coat has finally been laid to rest. After last year's brutal winter, I was thinking of upgrading to something a little warmer. But I'd also like it to be something I can wear with business attire, so I'm leaning towards something like a wool overcoat. Can you name some brands that have quality (i.e. warm) women's winter jackets? [more inside]
I'm making a winter coat. The instructions for the pattern I found online say to use a "double sided winter coating" and not to use a lining. [more inside]
I am obsessed with Sirius Black's housecoat. I love the peak lapels, warm dark color, and widely spaced stripes. I'm also a university professor where I could wear something like this on a regular basis. I've scoured thrift stores for years, with little luck. Where can I find this garment or similar? [more inside]
I need a new raincoat. I would like it to keep me very dry. I need to be able to pack it in a small space. I have a great trench coat that I love but sometimes rain soaks through it and it's a little bulky for travel. What raincoat should I get? [more inside]
I'm looking for a decent three season men's warm up jacket with a large inside pocket that can fit a decent sized book (two paperbacks or a larger hardcover). Does anyone make this? I carry a book with me everywhere and I don't always want to carry a bag, but many lighter jackets don't have pockets big enough. Can I find this anywhere?
Where in Austin, Texas can I find a women's down coat or other warm, femme-looking winter coat tomorrow? (Extra challenge: tall and broad-shouldered.) [more inside]
After spending months searching for the perfect coat, in November I found this Coffee Shop toggle coat at Scheels and fell in love with it. However, today I noticed a large hole in the fabric on the back of it and had to return it. Now the coat is no longer sold there and I am desperate to find another, but every place I can find says it is unavailable/out of stock. Please help me find where I can purchase this coat in a size small!
I'm in the market for a versatile men's winter jacket for outdoor activities such as hiking, running, etc that I can also wear out on the town without looking silly. I found a few on Cyber Monday that I really liked, but all of them were out of stock for my size/preferred color. I don't want to pay list price. How can I find a decent deal after the two biggest sales of the year are over? I'm looking for a quality jacket that is hopefully discounted a fair amount. [more inside]
Looking for a trendy wool/cashmere/Alpaca/Merino wool coat [more inside]
I'm looking for a women's down coat that's longer than my hips but not down to my knees. Ideally it has a hood without a fur (fake or otherwise) trim. And it needs to be available in size 18ish. Where should I look that I haven't already? [more inside]
I find myself in the realm of needing to wear a winter coat on a regular basis in the nearish future. A winter coat with other layers underneath. As a person who really hates cold, and owns a few blazers, I am hoping to wear them sometimes with a winter coat. But how? Is it as simple as wearing a blazer to the store and finding a coat the fits over the blazer? And oh god, how do you do that? [more inside]
Since my most recent haircut has made me look a bit like Mason Verger off NBC's Hannibal ( proof) I've decided to make it my Halloween costume this year. I want to focus on his first appearance in the white fur-trimmed coat. ( Like this ) What the hell is he wearing and where can I find a reasonable look alike within the month? Something cheap enough that I don't have to work it into my daily wardrobe to justify buying it. [more inside]
I'm looking for a raincoat similar to this one, which is no longer available in my size. [more inside]

I'm looking for a recommendation for a women's rain coat, with some specific requirements, because I'm really done with freezing in something waterproof or being warm and soggy in wool when it's 30-45F out. [more inside]

There's an artwork on public display in my community that isn't labeled with the artist's name or the title of the piece, and I'd like to know more about it. The facility that has it on display doesn't have the information, so I'm hoping you could take a look at it (or just read my description) and tell me if you know more about it, or where I could find out who created it and what it is called. It's a rather unique piece, being a full-length overcoat that's been hardened/cast and mounted on a large canvas. The yellow floral pattern of the coat is seamlessly transferred to the background of the canvas. For a link to a phone-cam pic I took of it, click [more inside]
I'm lusting after this jacket, but it's not available in the size I need. I wear women's plus size 22 or 2x. Is there another jacket you know of that would work for April in San Francisco? [more inside]

For the nth time, I can't believe I'm using my question for this, but it is making me crazy and I need help. Here's the situation: I hate coats and they hate me, but I have to find a way to stay warm outside in winter. Help me figure out what kind of warm garment won't ride up or cause my bags to slip off my shoulder when I walk outside? [more inside]
I love to walk to and from work, all year long, and this requires a warm coat. My current coat doesn't keep me as reliably toasty as I'd like. I want something as warm as a Canada Goose coat, but I don't want that brand - i want something that every second person (in toronto) isn't already wearing, and that is (if possible) slightly more urban/stylish/flattering, and less sporty/functional looking. In particular, i really don't want a big logo/badge on it, as all Canada Goose coats do. I absolutely want a down-filled coat, though. (I've never seen a wool coat that is anywhere near as warm as down.) Bonus points for something available at a retail store in Toronto (or possibly NYC, which i visit occasionally), and that costs $700 or less.
I'd like to find out what brand(s) of coat(s) Kyle Maclachlan is wearing in this and this photo, it's for a film noir project. Any idea?

My father has generously offered to buy me a new coat, and would like to spend $150. I am the type who will dither endlessly about this type of decision, so please help me locate the best coat available for that amount. [more inside]
I get cold easily. I'd like to buy a new men's winter coat that doesn't look like anything special but is secretly lined with magic warmth nodules. I don't want to be the guy bundled up in a Michelan man snowsuit when everybody around me is wearing hoodies and windbreakers. Help me fit in, fashionably speaking, while still feeling like I'm perpetually cozied up by a roaring fire. [more inside]
Winter coat filter: Hello minds of mefi, I am looking for an uber warm women's parka. Complexity level: I am six feet tall and size 4. Brands like North Face are great, but the sleeves are too short and waist is too wide. So I am looking for quality brads that I could look into that would fit a tall, slim woman. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks in advance.
First Chicago winter for a California native. Need recommendations for stores that have good-quality but not-too-expensive winter coats. [more inside]
I like M&S-style clothing, but as a slender man (35 chest 31 waist) I often have trouble finding something that fits, and the M&S range of winter coats, even in 'Small', looks a little baggy on me. Where else in London could I find something reasonably stylish, but also warm, to wear over a shirt & sweater, for less than, say, £300? [more inside]
I've spent my entire life (with little exception) between Houston and Atlanta, latitudinally speaking, and moved to Seattle this summer. I don't really know what I'm supposed to be wearing to best handle the winter. [more inside]

The label on the coat says dry clean only. Will dry cleaning do anything about the excess dye that keeps rubbing off? Can I do anything about this problem, or is it hopeless? If so, back to the store it goes.
This otherwise perfect second-hand suit I just bought has a few tiny white (threadbare?) spots near the bottom of the jacket. I want to wear it to an interview on Wednesday. Hope me? [more inside]
Back in the heady days of my youth I used to wear a rather splendid afghan coat - you know, the typical hippy embroidered brown suede and fur affair, complete with disturbing aromas of patchouli and vague decay (although to be fair that may have been me rather than the coat). And now I'd love to find another one - preferable a full-length white version I can paint the cover of ELP's 'Tarkus' album on, but another brown one at a pinch. Any idea where I could get one, Mefites? Ebay and online searches only seem show women's coats and I'm a 6' chap (from Nottingham, in the UK)! Many thanks in advance!
I read this a LONG time ago, a jacket where you could snap ur wrist (or some other hand geuster/movement) and it cause ur phone (stored in the sleeve) to drop right into ur hand. It was awesome if slightly risky and I'd like to take a look at it again. Anyone know of it? Or something similar?
I am a mid-20's female in search of the perfect coat/jacket for chilly spring and fall wear. Do you have one that you love? Requirements inside... [more inside]
In Montreal for vacation. Saw man on subway wearing an awesome winter coat. He had a shaved head, and his coat looked a bit monastic. It was long (down below his knee) and a bit baggy at the bottom, very warm looking, almost as if he were wearing an old-fashioned sleeping bag. Also distinctive, it had a very high collar, almost to the top of his ears, all around. Does this sound familiar to anyone?
