I just bought a 1 bedroom co-op in Brooklyn. I want to gut the kitchen. I have 30k. Is this possible? Can you recommend an architect? Share your story?

Seeking insurance broker recommendations for a new family in NYC. Co-op, Auto, and now with progeny, Life. Obviously want a person/office that we can trust, and will look out for our interests in the long haul. We live in Queens, and work in Manhattan. Bonus question: are any brokers fee-based, or do all work on commission-type arrangements?

I have a UK Cooperative bank visa debit card. Recently I was unable to make a purchase on-line so I phoned the store and was told the card is a 'visa electron' not a visa debit card, even though it clearly says it's a visa debit on my card. what is going on?

Co-op question. We contributed $400 (fully vested!) to a food co-op that may never happen. It hasn't been able to secure funding through a USDA loan, or by any other method. It's been about four years. Can I take an income tax deduction?

I am working with a non-profit co-op that would like to take payments from its members online. However, the co-op is not a 501(c)(3) organization, but has a very small budget and can't afford to shell out for a merchant account and all the associated widgets. They already tried PayPal and their account got "restricted" there because PayPal wants a 501(c)(3) letter. Are there any other choices?

I'm about to finish second year of Software Engineering at my mid-tier Canadian university and have no intention of continuing any further. I'd like to transfer into one of the more prestigious colleges in the US, although getting in seems like a complete crapshoot given my current circumstances. What course of action can I take in the coming months that would greatly increase my chances of being accepted?

Question: What are good ideas for entertainment/activites for those themes?

I need to write a friend a recommendation letter for a co-op where he is trying to buy an apartment here in NYC. I've never done this before. What kinds of things should I say in the letter besides the usual "I've known him for ten years and he's a stand up guy" sort of thing?
