I've been keeping research notebooks since the early 1990s, on a lot of different subjects. They're all finally consolidated as a couple thousand text files written in Markdown syntax. I'd like to start putting them up, gradually, on a website for others to use. A wiki seems the best way. (Is it?) I've got a few other questions about the best one, and best way, though:

I'd like to be able to embed a grid of thumbnails of products either scraped by search terms or manually entered - products from, ideally, multiple sites with affiliate programs, but barring that just Amazon would do - onto a web page.

Quick question...if I purchase a domain name (ie greaselightning.com) through Wordpress, can I transfer it to a different cms (?) in the future if i am not happy with wordpress' performance? For instance could I go to Joomla and take my name with me or does wordpresss somehow own it? This and any other tips you have for a new website creator/user would be greatly appreciated.

I need a theme for a new Wordpress site I'm making about hot springs in Japan. I have a large Bento database of over 200 location with reviews, pictures, addresses, types of baths, and so on... I've found a way to automatically turn the CSV file that Bento makes into the pages I want... I just need a template to put those pages into. Something simple and more geared to hosting static pages rather than a blog. I've spent hours searching through all of these theme websites only to get confused in the 1,000s of choices. So I'm asking you, the MiFi community, to choose for me. Thanks!

Web development work in Sydney: where to go ... what to know?
I'm a web developer, and might be getting laid off from my corporate job in Sydney next year.
So, two questions really:
- What's the best way to find work? Which agencies are the best? Which websites?
- I have a bit of lead-time, and I should probably be thinking about brushing up on my skills: I've spent a lot of time working on idiosyncratic in-house CMS and maintenance tools which would make you splutter if you saw them. So ... Drupal? JSP? Front-end stuff like JQuery/AJAX? What are the technologies in demand?
More background on my situation inside.

The corporation I work for is investigating using SharePoint 2010 for both intranet and website/extranet. The business case for the intranet is pretty sound, and we have identified many applications that can and should be replaced by a tool like SharePoint 2010. We have been asked to look at a website refresh, and we’re actively putting together a business case to use SharePoint for the website.

Due to a fiasco involving a failed service provider, I have to put together a small (5-10 pages) website in the next 72 hours. Since the domain name is still under the contractor's control and resides on her server, I must use CMS Made Simple (which is fine, given the need to update the site regularly). Otherwise it's a completely blank slate... and so am I.

Can you explain to me why a company would choose Liferay as their CMS? Because, as a user experience designer, I'm baffled. As far as I can tell, this CMS forces sites to have the
worst user experience I've ever seen. Are there benefits on the backend that make it worth causing users this kind of pain? Am I missing something here?

I want to learn PHP, SQL, Flex, Ajax, JavaScript, Joomla, Drupal, and the Adobe CS4 design premium programs (Dreamweaver, Flash, InDesign, Illustrator and Fireworks specifically.) Not all in one go of course, but I want to focus on these in particular. What books have you found to be the most helpful in becoming proficient with them? I have some experience with HTML, CSS and Wordpress if that helps.
P.S. - I'm mainly relying on the library/ILL to defray costs, but will buy books if need be. My work schedule prevents me from taking classes.

I've set up some clients with fairly complex Wordpress sites and now I have to teach them how to use the Wordpress back-end. I'm looking for any good tutorials and print-outs that would help someone with zero wp or CMS experience to do simple things like write/edit Posts and Pages, add images or youtube videos to a Post, enter data into custom keys. Basically, equip them so they can maintain the site on a day-to-day basis.
