Mobile tool storage ideas

I often work on my family's cars, however I don't have a garage and have to work in the driveway or in a rented (by the hour) garage with lift. In my workshop I have the tools organized on pegboards and in drawers. That's all fine and dandy, but I've come to realize that 90% of the time I use my tools I have to chuck them in tool bags and boxes and either bring them outside or to the aforementioned garage. I want a mobile storage system where everything has its place and I can see at a glance if something's missing. Like the pegboards, I guess, only portable. [more inside]

De-stuffing for the stuff-intensive lifestyle?

I have a lot of stuff and desperately need to declutter. But I'm also a crafter, a DIY-type and a mom to small kids, which means I have lots of quasi-legitimate reasons to hold onto Stuff. Given that all these objects are potentially useful, what algorithms can I use to distinguish between "useful, but toss" and "useful, so keep"? [more inside]

Oh my god will our house never stay organized!

Lets say you had 500$ to spend on making your messy house more organized and to create more storage. What would you spend it on? What things would you do to solve your messy house? My husband and I have a pretty small (~850 square feet total) house that is forever cluttered and messy despite our constant attempts to keep it clean. We're fed up and are prepared to make major changes to get this house permanently organized. Help us to be one of those hyper organized households! Of course there are snowflakey details within. Hoarding and endless grief for lost things

I have major hoarding problems, co-morbid with depression and anxiety, for extra fun and challenge. This is further complicated by the fact that I often grieve for lost, broken or discarded things endlessly, and the feelings never seem to heal. These feelings add to my depression and inhibit dealing with the hoarding issues. Can anyone offer advice not so much on how to get rid of items but on how to deal with sustained distress from having done so? [more inside]

How to manage a too-large collection of foreign language books?

Since I move a lot, I try not to keep too many books. I don't mind getting rid of the English ones. But with the foreign language ones, I get anxious about sunk costs, and how hard they would be to replace... how do I decide what to keep, and what to discard? [more inside]

Help me help my soon to be hoarder husband!

My husband of 30 years has been increasingly getting to be a total slob. He lays papers, clothes, anything on every horizontal surface! Our house is not small, he has one of our kids' old bedrooms as his office, and it is packed. Yet still he comes home everyday and lays all his 'stuff' on the kitchen table, his clothes on the only chair in our bedroom...I am so frustrated! When he's gone I often go through his 'stuff', tossing what I don't think is needed...but if he finds out he flips! I have set aside time to go through things with him, but he always finds an excuse not to follow through. He is good about doing other household chores, putting dishes and laundry away... I have gotten rid of extra tables and other things he could clutter up, but it absolutely does not help. I need your help before I go bonky. Thanks!

But, I need my physics notes from 1995!

I have about 3 smallish boxes of old school things from high school through university. I'd like to get rid of some of it, and keep the rest in some kind of (inexpensive) way that is compact and more or less won't fall apart. Do other people do this? (scrapbooks? photo albums? ruthless scanning?) How? [more inside]

Tips for keeping a clean apartment

I'm a lazy slob, so I gradually fill my apartment with clutter, misplaced items, and occasionally a bit of trash. Now that I've finished my annual cleaning, I figure that the only way to keep my apartment neat and organized is to make keeping it clean about as easy as making it messy. Do people have any tips or useful items to help do that?
