I am looking for guidance on migrating an application to the cloud, from both a practical perspective as well as a theoretical perspective for a project.

I've seen a lot of people (mostly those involved with enterprise-level computing in some way) deride the term 'cloud computing', or just the notion of 'the cloud' in general. What's the source of this animosity, and why is it to widespread?

I am looking for advice to come up with a technological solution for a physician’s office in NB, Canada. The scenario is that I would like patient files to be accessible remotely while still satisfying health privacy laws (PIPEDA), especially the part about patient records having to be stored in Canada.

I am looking to do a project on the effects of latency on cloud computing, specifically latency impacting on Amazon EC2 virtual machines and I am trying to get my head around it. EC2 is an Infrastructure As A Service cloud product. Unfortunately, I do not have much experience with it.
I haven't found alot on the internet on this area; has anyone seen any information on this subject?
Could anyone make suggestions about appropriate ways to do latency benchmarking in this area.
What kind of things ought I be looking to include in any benchmark tests.
How exactly do others go about measuring latency for Amazon EC2. Are there any software tools out there which will help.

I am interested in cloud computing and I am looking for recommendations re interesting and worthy articles and papers on the subject of cloud computing.
One area of interest is in how it will change the old-fashioned client-server network model - the status quo.
Is outsourcing the network infrastructure really going to produce a dramatic transformation or is it somewhat over-hyped and exagerated.

The Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) service is blowing my mind and melting my brain a bit. It seems like the stuff of science fiction, yet I know it is real. Can people here provide pointers to good articles about it, written more for the "intelligent layperson" instead of for sysadmins with multiple PhDs in BioInformatics and Algorithmic Analysis?

At work, my files are saved on a server which is automatically backed up. At home, my files are saved on my computer, which is backed up occasionally, whenever I remember to and have the time. I'd like to make a home setup that's more like my work setup. Is there a service available where I can buy space on a networked server with professional level backups to keep my personal files and protect them from loss?

Calling any Cloud Computing experts! I'm trying to find a VPS (virtual private server) or Cloud computing provider that doesn't charge when the server instance is offline.

I feel the need to move my computer data to the cloud, but I am... afraid. This has been troubling me for months now. I've bothered friends and family, but most of them have already switched and have no fear. But I'm an old computer dude and I've always stored my stuff within arms reach. I'm lured by Google features but, but... I guess it comes down to trust. This is emotional people! If I pay google monthly (for more space) does that imply any durability? Or am I way outta line and being too virtually materialistic?
