After my weekend spent purging my closet of BAGS full of clothes to donate that are too young, too cheap, too ill fitting, and just too plain ugly, I now find myself with a few holes and thin areas in my (blessedly) more manageable wardrobe. I'd like to fill those holes (slowly, eventually) with pieces that are classic, high quality, and (unicorn!) ethically produced (or at least MORE ethically produced than many major brands). Problem: I LOATHE shopping and am a style/fashion amateur. Where should be looking? What should I be looking for? Details inside. [more inside]

I'm looking for clothing stores within driving distance of Dayton, Ohio that are known for their quality. [more inside]
I have a problem buying clothes online. I'm in an in-between point in my fashion life: I'm not dressing like an undergraduate, but I haven't reached the LL Bean stage in my life either, and I don't have an office job that requires wearing business casual. Where do you all shop online? [more inside]
My mother is visiting Berkeley and would like to shop for clothing. She is 80 and her taste runs to Koret and Coldwater Creek but both of those have become online only. Can you recommend a brick and mortar clothing store where she might enjoy shopping for herself? She would be interested in a chain store or an interesting boutique.
I need a bike commuting jacket. I love love love this one from Betabrand BUT IT DOESN'T SHIP TIL JANUARY WHAT. Help me find an alternative to survive fall/winter in DC. [more inside]
At the ripe old age of 37, I've decided I'd like to look more put together and explore wearing clothes that aren't my usual uniform of "jeans, add t-shirt; in case of winter, add sweaters." But there are always snowflakes. [more inside]
The style of blouse that the woman is wearing in this stock photo looks very flattering on me. I have one blouse like that, but I'd like to buy more. What search terms can I use to find them, or what stores should I check out?
I'm a lady. I have a job interview coming up for which I was advised to wear a suit. I can't find my real suit, (may have donated it) but I doubt if it fit me anymore anyway. What I do have is a black sheath dress, a nice navy blue blazer, a nice grey blazer, a nice grey pencil skirt that is a slight mismatch with the grey blazer, and a pair of pants that's also a slight mismatch with the grey blazer, and a selection of those nice decorative shells that women wear under suits. I think I have black pumps somewhere, and I also have some nice looking oxford heels. Can I make something work with what I have or should I go try to find a suit? In addition, opaque or sheer tights? This is for a non-management web design job for which I thought suits were passe.

Can you recommend durable, somewhat fitted, not outrageously expensive work pants that will fit a small woman (5'0", 100 lbs, athletic build)? And by work I don't mean office-appropriate: I'm a carpenter and I spend my days at a grimy construction site. [more inside]
What website am I thinking of - make clothes selections, creates a fasion profile, and then makes suggestions? General advice on how to figure out what to wear... why does 30 feel so...weird? I feel like I'm either dressed like a 20 yr old or a 60 yr old - awkward, all the time. [more inside]
Cluelessly-dressed 30-year-old office-working lady here. I have come to the conclusion that it is in my best interest to start leaning much more toward the business side of business casual on a daily basis. Professional women/fashion mavens of Metafilter, could you lend me a hand with these business wear-related queries? [more inside]

I have been having a heck of a time trying to find work clothes suited for women. I finally found a pair of work gloves that aren't way too big, but I would really like a pair of Carhartt-type bib overalls. I tried some on earlier this evening and although they had sizes that corresponded to the size of men's jeans that I wear, the legs of the pants were voluminous, clown-like, and just uncomfortably large. It seems as though they are cut with a larger/different body type in mind than a 5'3" female. Are there any comparable work clothes out there that, without being pink or other such nonsense, are more suited to a woman's frame?
