MetaStyle: Help a stylishly challenged person get the perfect dress.

Help me (a plus-sized picky person) pick out an affordable, versatile dress to wear to a December wedding. I have no sense of style and I hate shopping for dresses; there are several reasons why too.

1. I have gained a lot of weight since an injury, so I'm around a size 18 and probably a 20 in some dresses. I feel like I look fat in EVERYTHING. I have thin nicely shaped legs though, but my torso is another story.
2. I don't like wearing dresses at all and I only shop for new cocktail/semi-formal dresses about every ten years. I am very picky.
3. I look terrible in many colors. I have almost an Eastern European look where my hair is medium to dark reddish brown, but my skin is very fair. Yellows and reds are out.
4. I prefer green and not just any green, but close to sage. I have only one feature that I'm proud of and that is my green eyes. Sage makes them striking and I nearly always get a compliment on my eyes.
5. I have to have something which hides my armpits. I have skin tags that I hate and am mortified over. Several times I've been to the doctor to have them removed, and every single time there wasn't "time" to do it. It's as though I'm destined to deal with them forever and always.
6. I need something that is about $75 or less, if possible.
7. Since I don't shop often for stuff like this, it needs to be versatile enough to wear for Christmas parties (et al) too.

Phew!

I like this dress, in Sage, but again, no sleeves and I'm not entirely sure how it would look on me anyway.

So, any ideas? If I get the above dress, what kind of wrap could I wear with it or sweater, or something else? I can't leave it sleeveless. Is there another dress out there which would be a better option?

I'm at a loss.

What not to wear

I have no wardrobe, or style. I'm lost, when it comes to this, Can anyone out there help dress me for a family members wedding? I have no style what so ever, and I have a wedding to go to in about a month. Its an evening wedding. My wife is sitting behind me searching online for dresses. I live just about every day in my "work uniform" of a blue shirt and khakis. Weekends, I wear a t-shirt and an old pair of ratty jeans. I don't want to go too over the top with a formal tuxedo, because from what I can gather, its a semi formal wedding on a military base, in Newport, RI.

Please help me, mefi, you're my only hope!

I want something probably blue-ish. I'd wear a kilt but they are so expensive, and I don't know if anywhere local rents them. I also don't want to show up the wedding party. I wouldn't but I don't want something gaudy and flashy.

Local links would be awesome.

Morning dress - where to buy/rent for a Miami wedding?

I'd like me and my groomsmen to be clad in morning attire when I get married in Miami a year or so hence. Morning dress is relatively rare in the US, and I was wondering if anyone who has had experience putting together this look for a wedding can recommend any good outfitters. We're probably going to buy for the groom and rent for the groomsmen. Any suggestions? There is plenty of lead time so I would be open to ordering from a non-Miami location. Any other advice on pulling off morning attire greatly appreciated!

After Five is alive?

What should a man wear to a wedding with an "after five" dress code? The internet says everything from a dark suit with a flashy tie and pocket square, to dress pants and a shiny shirt. What does "after five" mean for men?

men can't wear sundresses.

My boyfriend and I are heading to an outdoor wedding this weekend. It's expected to be hot, so I am questioning the appropriateness of a suit. The poor man will roast. What should/ can he wear that is acceptable? To give a little more detail. He's not the type of guy that is into fashion. That is kinda evident from the clothes pile on the end of our bed. He is more of the 30 year old grad student/ science type. He wears what I buy him, although, I am conscious of his comfort over fashion stance, but try to upgrade when possible. We are going to a cousins wedding on my side of the family, and he missed the last 4 due to summer research that he does in Maine. So... this is it, the mystery boyfriend is finally showing up and I want him to look nice. (but comfortable) As I mentioned above, it's in NJ, outside, and it's expected to be in the 80's.
Help.

What are the rules of etiquette for a Mormon wedding-related open house?

I've been invited to an "open house" in celebration of a wedding between two Mormons and have no idea what the etiquette is for such a function, particularly considering my past relationship (and current lack thereof) with the groom. I understand that there's a Mormon wedding ceremony that will happen in a temple that I, a non-Mormon, won't be attending and there's a reception for that as well which I also won't be attending. (It's in Utah, I'm in California.) I'm guessing this open house is a kind of reception for the California-area people who know the groom. The open house I'm going to is happening for a couple hours in the afternoon at the groom's parents house.

I'm assuming I should dress nice but not go all out in a tuxedo or anything like that. Yea or nay? Any specific recommendations are appreciated but I'm basically just wondering how formal to be.

Should I bring a gift? Here's where the thing about my relationship with the groom comes in. He and I used to be best friends years ago but eventually drifted apart. Nothing bad happened, we just went different ways with our lives and eventually didn't talk anymore. Aside from this invitation and a five minute phone conversation a few weeks ago, I've had no contact with him for probably at least a couple years. I would assume, for this reason, that a gift isn't expected of me. I don't want to come across as a jerk though for showing up empty-handed. If I should bring something, anyone have any suggestions for something nice yet relatively inexpensive and appropriate for the situation?

In addition, is there anything else I should know about the event that's traditional for something of this type?

My apologies if this sort of stuff is easily Google-able but most of what I found was either related to Mormon temple open houses or wasn't at all specific.
