Short-sleeve T-shirt over a long-sleeve thermal (i.e. waffle-weave, i.e. "long johns") shirt.
Feel free to answer with when and where you personally first saw someone wearing this combination... if you were alive back then, natch!

My roommate bikes about 4 miles to work. His feet are size 13 and he uses platform (flat) pedals. He wears pretty chunky shoes. We live in Portland, OR. For HolidayGiftingTime I bought him some Sugoi Resistor booties, but within a month they have shredded and ripped to the point of uselessness. What are some other options for the large-footed, shreddy-pedaled biker? Are there any booties specifically for platform pedals?

Searching for the perfect women's robe: "cute and cozy, non-Burqa-style robe." What this means in practice is something full coverage but without the shapeless lack of drape of some of those floor to ceiling women's robes that look like something cut for Lurch's body type.

Where can I purchase more
socks like these? Acquired by my husband over 10 years ago at an airport in the Netherlands, they are long-lasting, comfortable, made of wool, have the word "TRAIL" embroidered in red across the instep, three horizontal red stripes on the ball of the foot, and what may be a size "3-46" in red across the toe.

Is there anything comparable in quality to, but cheaper than, Brooks Brothers shirts?
I usually buy the no-iron, slim-fit BB shirts, but I'm trying not to drop too much cash, as I need to replace all my shirts (WTF deodorant stains?!). I don't like the ginormous blousey shirts that typically pass for men's dress shirts, so recommendations for something along the lines of BB's slim-line shirts, qualitatively comparable but cheap enough that I'd switch brands would be appreciated.

I'm trying to plan a trip to Fairbanks, Alaska next March in the hopes of seeing the northern lights. I'd be happy for any tips you might have in general for trips to alaska/northern lights viewing. However, my first concern (as I do more research) is clothing - I'm in Georgia, and doubt I have anything that is suitable for March in Fairbanks. (-20 to 50 degrees?)

I've ruined two of my favourite shirts and am desperate for replacements from
Uniqlo. Sadly, they won't ship outside of UK and I can't go right now. Can you recommend (or do you know of) a reliable UK service that I could use to forward my package to Finland? I've previously used
Shipito with US-only vendors and was hoping for something similar.

I'm in my 20s and a man and I have a lot of trouble coming up with reasonably in style
outfits. I'm looking for pictures of outfits with links to buy each component. Ideally, these would not be tied to any one brand (so, not Gap's looks for spring or something). Basically: "Wear theses things together and here is where you can find them."

I'm in the market for a quality pair of men's corduroy trousers, hopefully in a forest green-ish shade. I'm not liking the (vintage and Land's End) pairs I'm finding because they feel too much like casual pants: the waistbands are kind of flimsy, they're cut like jeans, etc. Recommend for me please a corduroy trouser around $100 or less with a strong waist.

I'm doing some winter wardrobe shopping and I'd like to upgrade my sweaters - last time I shopped for sweaters was 10 years ago or so. Most of the sweaters I'm seeing at the usual garden-variety shops (LL Bean, Land's End, J. Crew, etc. all seem to have the same boring patterns and drab colors, or aren't functional - e.g. too thin and not ideal for cold climates. I even checked Etsy to see if there were more interesting sweaters there but nothing jumped out at me. Who are the good sweater shops? I'm going to have to learn to knit, aren't I?

From what I remember of the Inuit film
Atanarjuat (The Fast Runner), the clothing, though heavy, seemed to fit very loosely. Although it seemed fine for the relatively mild weather of the film, I wondered if it would be effective enough when it was colder. How different was winter clothing during the era in the film? What are other practical details of staying warm outdoors for many hours in arctic or subarctic climates? Or did people just stay indoors?
