I'm wanting to look more put-together and stylish for work. I work in a government office, live in a moderately cool climate (daily maximums from 10 to 40 degrees C), am 32 and female. Please help me do better! [more inside]

My niece is turning 15 next month, and I'd like to set up some sort of clothing allowance for her - any suggestions on amounts or how to organize? [more inside]
Jones New York is apparently going under, so I'm looking for alternatives. Examples of what I like: this, this, and this. I'm looking for casual and business-casual clothes that are pretty standard with some interesting touches. My other main places to shop are Goodwill and Marshalls, where I look for Splendid, Loft, BR, James Perse, etc.
I spilled bleach on a beloved rugby shirt, and would like to try to repair or replace it. Help? [more inside]
I'm bummed that Coldwater Creek has gone bottoms-up. Who's their best online replacement?
Going to my first-ever yoga class this Sunday. Late 30s male. What should I wear? And what should I bring with me? I am going to a beginner's class at Pure Yoga on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. Thanks.
Apparently every store I like to shop at now makes all of their button-down shirts and blouses semi-sheer (Loft is the biggest offender). The trouble is that I'm REALLY hot natured and try to wear as few non-removable layers as possible (cotton tanks as a layer are too hot). I'm hoping someone can link to tanks made of really, really thin material or some kind of miracle solution that doesn't require another layer of clothes. Any suggestions of how I can layer without feeling layered?
I'm attending a wedding in Mumbai this upcoming weekend and am having a crisis of apparel. [more inside]
My mother is visiting Berkeley and would like to shop for clothing. She is 80 and her taste runs to Koret and Coldwater Creek but both of those have become online only. Can you recommend a brick and mortar clothing store where she might enjoy shopping for herself? She would be interested in a chain store or an interesting boutique.
I really enjoy the freedom of movement that comes from not carrying a bag and was wondering if you had any suggestions for a) women's clothes/unisex clothes/appealing men's jackets or other clothes with deep pockets b) some other alternative? [more inside]
Too many years of casual clothing-living has left me with no frame of reference. I'm attending my first opera next month and I'm wondering what the proper attire is. The opera is in Los Angeles and, if it makes any difference, I'm sitting in the nose bleed section.
I'm a fat woman (US sizes like 26-28 at the moment), newishly arrived to Washington DC. Where can I buy some clothes my size, in a brick-and-mortar store where I can try them on, and if possible that's near public transportation? My job involves some physical work and can get a bit dusty/dirty; I tend to wear jeans or cords, and a button shirt with the sleeves rolled up. [more inside]
I will be traveling to Goa in the next couple days but only for about 10 days. Usually I have time to get clothes tailor made but probably not this time. so I need recommendations for stores where I can buy reasonably priced ready to wear casual clothes in Panaji, Vasco or environs. Because I don't visit often, and have relied on tailor made, I dont know where to go. [more inside]
What outside-the-box-color nail polish would best accent a black cocktail dress (with silver accent beading) and silver shoes? [more inside]
My dermatillomania has worsened, and I'm biting and picking at my fingers all day and in my sleep, causing a fair amount of damage and pain. I want to find some gloves I can wear at night and perhaps at work to help curb this until I can get it under control. Does anyone have any insight into everyday-wear gloves? [more inside]
I'm doing field work in a hot climate and need to order some skirts online before I go. I'm having trouble finding skirts that fit my pretty specific requirements, but you have been really helpful with "find me this clothing item" requests in the past. Can the hive mind make some recommendations? [more inside]
My boyfriend is a bike mechanic and he's going to be providing support for a large mountain bike stage race taking place over six days. He asked me to come, which sounds like a fun active vacation thing to do. It will be him and his business partner in a company truck, and me in a second car. There will be hot sweaty days of work, chilly nights and a mix of car camping and possibly a hotel here and there. I'd like advice on clothing and what else I should bring, for comfort and utility. I'm a bit obsessed with women's tunics at the moment. Especially ones that have a semi-Indian look. Metafilter is so great at finding amazing clothing resources and I wondered if anyone has a good source for tunics or kurtis shipped from inside the United States? (I'm concerned about customs or courier fees for items shipped from other countries.) Thanks for any leads!
Thanks to this comment, I've learned about shirt garters/shirt stays. Who knew?! And I have questions. Do you have experience with these straps of contraption? [more inside]
My wife has accepted a post-doc position in the University of Wisconsin system with duration of around two years. Where exactly in Wisconsin is slightly up in the air, but no matter where we end up, we have a host of questions to ask about moving there and Wisconsin life in general. Once we know where we're actually going, we may have more questions about the area, but right now I think our biggest concern is winter. [more inside]
I recently acquired a beautiful, brand new designer dress that's much nicer than anything I've had in my wardrobe before. I've worn it once and have been hanging it up to air out. Is it better to get it dry cleaned before storing it, or will it be easier on the fabric to put it away in its worn-once state? I don't want to put unnecessary stress on the fabric from the dry cleaning process, but I really, really don't want to find moth holes in the dress several months from now, either. [more inside]
I have seen fashion/clothing sites where on the product page the brand has dress/pant/shirt etc. options. There is a blank image of the pants, etc. Below the image is a choice of colors or design. When you scroll over a color you then see what the color will look like on the pants. Does anyone know any brands that have this on there sites? I have seen them in the past yet none of them are coming to mind. I am building a website right now and would like to show this to my designer.
So, for the longest time, I have coveted some of the vests sold by San Fransisco alt clothing store Five and Diamond such as this. I like getting occasionally dressed up and I tend to favor stark contrasts of a white collard shirt with something else (a vest a tie etc.) when I do. I am looking for something like that but, as in the linked vest, with a little extra pizazz That being said, I don't get dressed up often enough these days (nor do I necessarily make enough money) to rationalize dropping that much money on a single item. Anyone have cheaper ideas of where to find similar items?
Where can I find cool clothes outside of the normal mens range in regular sizes? [more inside]

I am aiming to sell a men's fashion line on-line beginning in June. I am doing research about on-line selling platforms. The concerns I have on my end is free shipping costs and product return (if the the items do not fit) I have checked Amazon and they do charge shipping costs. Now looking for some local e-commerce businesses. Any other suggestions?
The focus should be on the bride, NOT on the taffeta-covered hobo skulking around the cheese trays: please, PLEASE help me (a non-fancy-dressing lady) dress myself for the four weddings I'll be attending this year. (Sequins shaped like) snowflakes inside! [more inside]
I am going in for an interview at the place I am currently temping. What should I wear? [more inside]
I'm a lady. I have a job interview coming up for which I was advised to wear a suit. I can't find my real suit, (may have donated it) but I doubt if it fit me anymore anyway. What I do have is a black sheath dress, a nice navy blue blazer, a nice grey blazer, a nice grey pencil skirt that is a slight mismatch with the grey blazer, and a pair of pants that's also a slight mismatch with the grey blazer, and a selection of those nice decorative shells that women wear under suits. I think I have black pumps somewhere, and I also have some nice looking oxford heels. Can I make something work with what I have or should I go try to find a suit? In addition, opaque or sheer tights? This is for a non-management web design job for which I thought suits were passe.
Where do you recommend to go shopping for mens clothing, and specifically dress pants, in central Philadelphia or the surrounding area? [more inside]
Coming from London UK. Need to travel light - what must I bring to wear to deal with the cold and snow? I am familiar with winter - but what will I regret not taking if the current weather situation continues across next week?
MeFi, I want to flex my muscles! More specifically, I want a T-shirt that looks like a muscular male chest. Cartoon abs would be ideal but photorealistic abs will be okay too. I would like the shirt to be in color, have the printed abs be wide enough to cover my chest so it looks like I have a six pack rather than looking like a picture of abs, and be available in a men's/unisex small. Under $20 including shipping would be ideal too. This is the closest I can find to what I need but is too large, too expensive and I'd honestly prefer cartoony abs. Halp?
Forgot the name of a women's clothing brand. Something like Wind ans Sand, or Sand and Skull.... [more inside]
I am looking to buy this travel sport jacket from Eddie Bauer. Are there other alternatives? [more inside]
It's embarrassing to admit to being a 33 year old woman who can't dress herself, but my frustration is outgrowing my embarrassment. I have pretty much nothing in my closet that I like to wear, and that I feel I look good in. I wear nearly the same thing every day: jeans, sneakers/tennis shoes, t-shirt or slightly fancier t-shirt, and one of several ratty hooded sweatshirts, each of which has a hole in the left elbow. I dress like slob. I do not feel this look suits me, and I want to change it, but don't know how. [more inside]
So Mr. Kitty and I stole away to Vermont last week for an impromptu ski trip during the amazing snow storm. I now have the bug for skiing and would like to get a quality ski jacket. [more inside]

Where can I buy good-quality yoga clothes in the UK? My mum wants some for Christmas and I'd love your recommendations for comfortable yoga clothes for more mature women (say 60+). Basically she doesn't want skintight leggings or any obtuse logos, etc. She'd like darker colours (although 'a little bit of colour but not too bright' is ok). Bonus if the store is online and offers shipping. Thanks!
I don't want to find a good men's scarf. I want to find the best men's scarf. It should be non-wooly/scratchy, smooth to the touch, long enough and thick enough to be wrapped around the neck and draped over the front to create an insulation layer while waiting on cold train platforms and be in a "masculine" pattern/color that would suit most coats. It should also be durable and long lasting, I want a scarf you could wear without comment for 20 years and then be buried with it. Where is this scarf?
I would like to purchase a terrycloth robe for a woman, ideally with animal print. Images of animals would be preferable to a leopard or zebra print pattern. Where can I find such an item?

I'd like to incorporate a bit more edginess into my work look (I work in a creative field, and as a lady, I want to project a bit less sweetness and a bit more edge). What are some ways I can do this? Open to any appearance-related suggestion-- clothing, hair, makeup, accessories, etc.-- with the exception of satanic face tattoos. [more inside]
I am looking for a new clothing supplier. The previous company I shopped with have been outed as a bunch of labour-abusing dirtbags and I can't have that. I need to know the names of some places I can buy clothes with confidence and conscience and was hoping maybe I could get some suggestions. [more inside]
I just finished my first paid storytelling gig and have been invited back for more, which technically makes me a professional storyteller. OBVIOUSLY this means I'm now officially entitled to buy and wear that long romantic dress with wide sweepy skirt I've wanted since preteen girlhood. Help me find it! Pickiness inside. [more inside]
