Compare these brands of jeans

I'd like a comparison of CK, Levi's, Dickies and Lee jeans. I've never bought a pair of jeans (for dull reasons), but I'm thinking about doing so. I know very little about the various brands and would appreciate some basic knowledge.

Obviously I need to see which fit me best, but aside from that, please tell me about the durability and other distinguishing characteristics of the following brands:

Calvin Klein

Levi's

Dickies

Lee

Any good or poor record of environmental friendliness or workers' rights would also be interesting.

Other brands (also for dull reasons) are not such a good choice for me, but if you strongly believe there is one that's head and shoulders above the four listed above, you can tell me too. Mostly, though, please compare the brands above.

Where can I find some USA-made jeans in Los Angeles?

Where can I buy jeans in Los Angeles that are made in the USA? I got sick of all my clothing being made in China and Vietnam. It seems that no matter what store I go into (including "high-end clothing"), everything is made in Asia.

I want to wear jeans made here in the USA--without spending an arm and a leg. That means I want to spend less than $100, and closer to $50 would be much better. I want something comfortable, long-lasting, and perhaps in a boot cut--but I'm not a cowboy. I'm not looking for rodeo wear.

I went into an American Apparel, and did not like anything. It's perhaps too hip for the likes of me. I'm impressed with their desire to provide livable wages and make their product in downtown LA, but it's not my style. Up until now, I've mostly been a Gap and Banana Republic type of fella. I'd also like to be able to try on my jeans first, so buying something online sight unseen isn't going to happen.

Holy jeans need healing

My jeans always wear out in the spot right behind the crotch seam in the two rear quadrants formed by the four way seam intersection. It's not an area people generally tend to see and I could probably extend their wearable life considerably by patching the holes to keep my tackle from hanging out.

Is there any easy way to patch these holes? Some product perhaps? I have no sewing machine, have never sewn a thing in my life and my mom is a giant ocean away.

Help me find some cute jeans!

Looking for some stylish, slim jeans for a 18 year-old male, very slim college student. I'm an even six foot (or maybe 1/16" off), and weight about 133-135. Yeah, pretty skinny. I'm looking for some good jeans that fit well. My current favorite pair is a pair of "Levi Signature Authentics" or something that I bought at Target, reeeeeeeally cheap. They're "Slim Straight", but Target has since switched to selling "Vintage Straight" which, well, aren't slim enough.

I like fairly close-fitting clothing, my wardrobe consists mainly of small concert tees, hollister/american eagle shirts/sweaters/polos, and anything else that I like. I wear 30/32 jeans (usually). My price range is preferably $40-60, but I could be convinced to go outside that. Looking for a dark-ish blue color. Not black, not navy. I kind of like the look of these: as a reference. It's an hour's drive to the nearest large-ish city (Tucson), so not a wide assortment here. I drive into the city sometimes, though.

I am *not* looking for those "skinny" jeans that the wannabe skater kids wore in high school. I'm fine with paying more for a decent pair that will last a while, I wear jeans probably 335 days out of the year. I have very little experience with buying jeans, and none with buying decent jeans that aren't Levi's. I just always wore whatever my mother bought me until I started carrying, then whatever pair of random slim levi's I found.

Picky, I know, but thanks!

Casual (but stylish) clothing blogs for aging hipsters?

Casual (but stylish) clothing blogs for aging hipsters?

I'm looking for some blogs that feature cool clothes that you can actually buy. Like HYA meets Etsy but for stuff beyond Ts and hoodies. Whatup green!?

I give up... I can't find any clothes I like. I've been digging for ages now. Occasionally I'll find a shirt or two from the usual suspects (Urban, AA, H&M, etc) every now and again... but my success rate is low. Like 75% of the crap I end up with doesn't fit right or is boring or both.

I'm looking for some blogs that I can frequent to find cool clothes. Like HYA but for stuff beyond Ts and hoodies.

For style background, I'm basically looking for stuff built from solid fabrics (I love seeing the weave - like linen or canvas) in earth tones with some kind of flair (like cool buttons or epaulets or interesting cuts.... nothing crazy). Sort of one part military, one part Marxist, one part haute couture... Does that even make sense?! Fsssh... no sense at all... maybe that's the problem. Ugh!

Anyway, help!

Please?

Can you help me find online a belt (for jeans) i saw on a magazine cover? Hi,

I supply an uploaded photo. On the buckle, the script reads as either "tough" or "rough". (If you know something similar it is all right too...)

Thanks in advance...
What to do with my scrap clothing in Seattle? I have a bunch of clothes -- jeans, shirts, pants -- that are in some way or another useless to me, but I feel it would be rude to leave them with Goodwill. Most of them have holes in them, or are beyond repair, but still have what appears to me to be large, usable pieces of fabric left. Some are bleach-stained. I just don't want to throw them away. Is there a place in Seattle that would take my scrap clothing?

What are popular stores to buy jeans and sweaters as a gift for a 14 year old boy?

What are popular stores to buy jeans and sweaters as a gift for a 14 year old boy I've never met? I am participating in a charitable "Secret Santa" program at my office, through a local charity we work with. My letter is from a 14 year old boy, who asks for, among other things, jeans and sweaters. The organizer in our office doesn't have any further information from the charity as to preferences, and the kids I'm related to are all a bit younger than 14 and still more interested in toys than clothing.

I'm in Manhattan and happy to go into a store or order online, though I'd like to include a gift receipt in case he needs to change the size or absolutely hates what I buy so I guess places that have a NYC store would be best.

All I know about him is his age (14), that he's living in the Bronx, and that his size is 18 (which appears to be the upper edges of boys' sizing, though if I'm reading sizing charts wrong, please let me know). I'd like to get him clothing he'd actually like, so if anyone has recommendations for where 14 year olds boys would like to shop, I'd appreciate it. Thanks for your help.

H&M LAD from NYC to H-Town

Is there any way for me to buy H&M LAD fit jeans in the South? I recently took a trip to New York and took the opportunity to shop at H&M. There are NO H&Ms in Texas, where I live, and the closest one is many hundreds of miles away, so it was a neat thing for me. The jeans there, the LAD fit, fit PERFECTLY. They are the first pair of jeans I have liked that much since a very expensive pair of couture jeans I bought once used at a resale shop, but at half the price.

I've been watching eBay, but there don't seem to be any pairs in my size showing up. H&M also has no catalog or internet sales. Is there some way, aside from making a friend in NYC and sending a check, that I can get more of these pants?

Alternately, does anyone know a pair of jeans that fit JUST LIKE the LAD jeans that I could find in Houston, that would sell in the sub-$40 range?

My jeans NEED to have rhinestones on them

I have a pair of jeans. It is a normal pair of jeans. I would like to have a line of rhinestones going along the outseam on either leg. What's the best method? I went to The Rag Shop to do some research. It seems I have several options, none of which seem all that great.

1. I can glue on rhinestones using fabric glue. I can spend many many hours doing this and then wash the jeans and goodbye rhinestones.
2. I can do the same with sequins. They don't look quite as cool, but still acceptable, and seem a little less likely to pop off. This would also take many many hours
3. I can get some sequin rope like this and hire a tailor to sew it on. This is easy and, I think, would look okay. I'll probably do this if no one has a better idea.

Really, I'd like rhinestones. I started doing some Googling and noticed a variety of rhinestone applicators, but none that stood out as a great option, so I said, Y'know what? I'll just ask on mefi. Someone will have the answer.

So...please help me transform my jeans into AWESOME JEANS.

I hate buying clothes.

Jeansfilter: I am short and curvy (and a girl, obviously), therefore finding great jeans is super difficult. I need help! Dear internets, I'm 5'2" and a size 10 or 12 (this varies on brand and how much I ate for lunch, I'm one of those people who can gain or lose 5 lbs in a day). I could stand to lose about 15-20 lbs, I know this, so please don't lecture me about it. I have a little waist and big ol' butt. The gap's curvy fit and long and lean jeans fit me pretty well, but I'm looking for a pair of jeans that I can wear out to fancy bars or restaurants (like 7's or luckys or citizens or whatever the cool kids wear these days). The problem is I don't know which of these brands I can find in my size/length and how much they cost (I'm willing to pay a lot, but not like $300). Also, b/c of my shape, I can't wear super low rise pants. I'm against Old Navy, Land's End, Eddie Bauer type places (not that I'm a label whore, but like I said, I want fancy jeans). Any suggestions?

Where can one find fashionable items (jeans, shirts, etc) for oversized folks? I'm having a really, really hard time finding fashionable clothing for people that are oversized. High-dollar boot cut jeans, large fashionable shirts in today's hipster styles, leather jackets, etcetera. I know about big and tall stores, but they're usually very limited in selection. Anyone have any idea about where one can find your average Abercrombie and Fitch-style jeans and other hipster wear that actually fits large folks?

Button-Fly

Why the button fly? [mi] So I see these jeans in my local denim emporium and they're a great colour and exactly what I want. The only problem is they have a button fly and the last time I encountered one of those it was not a happy experience. Sure enough they're taking some getting used to. When I go to the toilet I have to use a cubicle because the sight of me grappling with those stupid buttons is not pretty.

Anyway, I've been struggling with these for three days now and I just don't understand why anyone in the 21st century would actually request these damn things.

Designer Jeans

I'm looking for a pair of jeans I saw someone wearing on the street today. I think I saw the same pair on Gwyneth Paltrow in People recently. They're women's jeans, low-rise, dark-ish, expensive looking, (hot!). They have a horizontal seam across the knee and snaps the size of nickels down the outside of the pant leg from knee to ankle. I've called several department stores and looked online, but I just can't seem to find them again. Help?

No more Levi's - help me find new jeans that meet my standards

Now that Levi's are no longer made in the U.S. what American-made jeans, similar in quality, durability and style should European diehards buy? [More inside.] Yes, there is an enormous difference - even Canadian Levi's are made of a thinner and less durable denim. European (British and Irish included) and Asian versions are even worse and flimsier. Really bad. I know from extensive experience, so please don't fob me off.

Like many of my boring-old-fart ex-hippy friends, I've worn US-made Levi's 501s for more than 30 years (lately ordered via the Web) and am dreading the inevitable switch. I'm looking for stiff, thick, no-nonsense American-made jeans (the kind that takes at least a year to break in) that will withstand everything you can put them through, preferably not as stiff, ungiving and unstylish as work jeans, but along those lines in terms of uncompromising timelessness and, above all, durability, comfort, and general robustness of denim, rivetting and stitching. They must also look good. Do I have a chance in hell? If not, what's second-best?
