I'm a slim 40-year old guy in Brooklyn and cannot find pants that fit me and are age-appropriate. Help? [more inside]
I saw a woman in downtown Seattle today wearing a black, long-sleeve pullover sweatshirt that had an all-over print of shiny silver damask - not unlike these leggings, except in sweatshirt form. Google hasn't turned up anything, but I desperately want one! Any ideas where to look? thanks!
I'm in Bangkok for two days and I'd like to do some clothing shopping--for interesting, inexpensive things, maybe vintage/used if it exists here in the same way it does in the states. Suggestions? [more inside]
I need new clothes, and I would like, for once, clothes that look good. Significant bonus points if they signal modesty and I can do some physical work in them. [more inside]
Which clothing stores in NYC have good casual/business casual clothes for larger men? My boyfriend and I are going clothes shopping this coming Saturday to prepare for an upcoming trip. He has a suit, but other than that, all his clothes are jeans and tees. For this trip, we are looking for: casual button down shirts (oxfords or plaids), non-jeans/non-khaki trousers, a sport coat or blazer, and some shoes that fall in between the New Balance sneakers he usually wears and the nice black shoes he wears with his suit. Sizes and price range below the cut. [more inside]
Please tell me about your experience with a Nordstrom's shopper and if their services would be right for my situation. [more inside]
I'll admit it, I buy a lot of clothes off the sale rack or at outlet stores. Too often, though, I bring home what I think is a great value only to discover, after wearing and/or washing said item, quality problems I didn't see in the store. Things like knits that are twisted and don't lie flat, shirt hems that are hopelessly contorted once they've been laundered, or buttonholes that quickly ravel beyond repair. I know these sorts of problems are inevitable given the state of clothing manufacture, but that doesn't mean I have to buy these "troubled" items. So, savvy shoppers of MeFi, what should I be looking for? What tells you to steer clear of a garment no matter how much you like it? Is there a secret code on the hang tag that everyone but me knows about? C'mon, please share your secrets.
I'm in my 40s, and I would love to have a "goto" place to buy my every day clothes. I have no idea where that place should be. [more inside]
You are an average-sized woman with a disproportionately large chest. You have great bras. You look fabulous in your tops, which magically do not pull, gape, make you look skanky or fit like a giant bag. How did you learn how to dress yourself in a way that flatters you, and where are you shopping for clothes that have a chance of fitting without tailoring? [more inside]
I love the look of empire-waisted sweater dresses, tights, and boots for winter. Help me find some nice sweater dresses! [more inside]
I am looking for a new clothing supplier. The previous company I shopped with have been outed as a bunch of labour-abusing dirtbags and I can't have that. I need to know the names of some places I can buy clothes with confidence and conscience and was hoping maybe I could get some suggestions. [more inside]
In the latest season of Project Runway, there was a challenge in which the prize was to have your design produced and sold by Belk. I'd love to purchase Dom's design, and I've been stalking the Belk website since, but there have been no updates, much less actual dresses for sale. Anyone know if/when this is ever going to happen, and if they'll be sold online? (Maybe they're only appearing in physical stores, but seems like they are really missing out on a marketing opportunity if that's the case!)
My wife's favorite hobby for after work is to go onto Ebay and bargain hunt for clothes. She has been doing this for years. She doesn't buy that much, she just enjoys searching. Last week, out of the blue she got an email from Ebay that her 12 year old account was being closed and there was nothing she can do. The reasoning was odd (something about a similar account blah blah) but that is besides the point. Anyway, I am looking alternatives websites she can go to and bargain hunt for clothes online. Etsy.com is the only similar thing I can think about.
I'm looking for T-shirts or tank tops to wear while exercising. I'm 5'10" but wear regular length pants; my above-average height is all in my torso. I haven't found any tall-sized workout clothes. Please advise. [more inside]
I had my heart set on this blazer, but it turned out to look different when I saw it in person. Any recommendations for places to get a similar-style blazer in the same price range? I'm a man in London.

I'm just under 5'5". Unusually (I think?) for someone of average height, I have long legs *and* a long-ish waist. This is possible because the distance between my shoulders and under-arms is, apparently, according to the shirts of the world, unusually short. [more inside]

Guys, I've finally found the robe of my dreams. Well, sort of. Please help me locate a reasonable fascimile of this gorgeous, long, short-sleeved, fitted, white quilted cotton-looking robe, as seen on Mad Men (season 2, episode 8, I believe). Screenshots of The Robe of My Dreams on Betty Draper here and here.

Where would you buy a waistcoat (you know, like the vest part of a three piece suit) in Chicago? I know that All Saints has two in the fall line, but they (like the department stores) are both basic black. Guy is looking for something a little more exciting, maybe with matching pants. I don't want the responsibility of sewing it myself (and pants are definitely beyond me, anyway). Custom is probably okay; online is okay; custom on-line is not preferred. He will not have the patience for going through vintage or consignment shops.

My partner left her favorite hat on the subway last week, and despite her valiant attempt to search the same train on the next run, she couldn't find it again. Have you seen this (style of) hat -- or any advice for finding it? Is there such a thing as an image-search for products? [more inside]

"When shopping for clothes, buy the best quality material you can afford". I want to do this, but I don't know much about fabric. Can you rank different fabrics for me, ranging from lowest to highest quality? [more inside]
I've been hanging out with first-graders lately, and I'm so jealous of their clothes! They wear things that are super-cute and stylish enough that they wouldn't look at all out of place on an adult, but also made to withstand tumbling around and playing. How does someone who is *just barely* too big for standard kids sizes find clothes like that? (I'm 5' 2" and 115 lbs.) [more inside]
I am addicted to buying clothes online. Every time there's a sale for anything (15% off, free shipping etc.), I feel compelled to take advantage of it and buy whatever I want. I rationalize my behavior, thinking "oh, I'm saving myself money in the long run by buying these clothes now, rather than later when there's no sale." Or I'll say, "If I don't buy it now, they'll run out of stock, and then I won't have this beautiful item." What can I do, say to myself, or change in my behavior, to prevent my online shopping sprees? If you see an item you like online that's just a convenient click away from being yours, what is the checklist you go through, mentally, before deciding to purchase/not purchase it? How do you keep your clothing budget under control?
I love the look of ladies neckties and I want to start wearing them to the office, but I am not sure how to go about sizing them to fit (5' 1") me. I think most men's ties look too wide, and I know there are also skinny ties, but I'm assuming they'd be too lengthy... [more inside]
I'm a guy looking for casual, slim pants that aren't jeans. Maybe something you would see in Europe. I need them in all sorts of colors. One of my female friends suggested that her pants might fit me, and upon trying them on they actually fit better than anything else I own. So, any suggestions as to where I can find pants that actually fit without looking in the ladies section? [more inside]

Where do people shop for cool MEN'S clothes? I'm not 21 and don't want to wear skinny jeans with plaid Vans. But I'm not 40 and do not want to dress in the JCPenney uniform of khakis and golf shirt. I've tried JCrew and Banana Republic -- ok, but a bit stuffy or fratty. H&M is just strange. I'm looking for clothes I can wear on a Fri or Sat night. Date w girlfriend. Out with friends at a cool bar. Any ideas on where to shop?
I want to buy 10 pairs of black jeans so I don't have to do the laundry every week. Buying them in the local Levis store is terribly expensive (EUR 930/$1244). Looking for alternatives. [more inside]
