I live in jeans and on my bicycle. I don't mind biking in jeans for short distances, but I'm finding myself doing a lot more bike riding in situations where I need something more presentable and versatile than bike shorts, skorts, or yoga-type pants, but more comfortable than jeans. (And it's not my bottom that's the issue, so wearing padded liner shorts under my jeans is not the solution I'm looking for.) The obvious answer here is pants designed for traveling and hiking, but I'm having a hard time finding any in my size (2X). I found some cargo pants at Old Navy that looked promising, but even though they're in my size they don't fit because they're super low-rise. REI has exactly one pair of plus-sized adventure travel pants and I have them, but I'd like more options. Do you have a recommendation for comfortable hiking/travel pants in plus sizes?

What pants do people wear for very cold (0 °F / -18 °C, and colder) weather hiking? Just rain shell pants and wool long underwear? Surely there are insulated pants suitable for hiking?

Asking for a friend: I have a 31 in inseam, 31 inch waist, 41 inch hips, and 24 in thighs (all circumferences). At what brick-and-mortar stores in Chicago can I buy nondescript men's slacks? In the past (fashionistas avert your eyes) I've mostly bought pleated pants several sizes too large and just belted them in. If possible I'd like to avoid that this time around.

I am looking for women's plus-sized (size 2X) cold-weather pants for walking my dog in the morning. I walk/run her for about 45 minutes (we are slowly doing Couch to 5K together). Specifically, I'd like to have something like these
thermal running tights that are light, easy to pull on in the morning straight out of bed and will wick away moisture. Regular exercise and/or running tights aren't warm enough. Typical temps I walk in are down to 20F -- I'd like to be warm, but just
not cold would be sufficient. I need them in a women's size 2X, but have had no luck finding anything.

I'm a guy looking for casual, slim pants that aren't jeans. Maybe something you would see in Europe. I need them in all sorts of colors. One of my female friends suggested that her pants might fit me, and upon trying them on they actually fit better than anything else I own. So, any suggestions as to where I can find pants that actually fit without looking in the ladies section?

My wife is 5 foot 1. Finding clothes has always been hard for her, but as sizes balloon it's become nearly impossible. Now even ladies' small sweatpants are too big for her; she can wear boys' sweats, but boys' jeans aren't cut for her curves. "I can find 6s, but not in petites. I can find petites, but not in a 6. There are short American women, and there are thin American women, but apparently there are no short, thin American women." Any advice? Where should she shop?

My fiancee is looking into the possibility of selling clothes with custom art/text/etc. She knows about CafePress and such, but is looking for a way to get text/images on black and dark clothes. Shirts, hoodies, pants, etc.
There's always the 'custom-shirts-for-10-dollars' places, but she doesn't want to sell anything that's going to fade in a month, or is otherwise of questionable quality. Have any of you had good experiences with online companies that provide custom printing services? Would it be a good idea to look into purchasing a silkscreen machine?

Well never thought I'd ask metafilter about this, but does anyone else have trouble finding pant sizes that fit? I'm a 30 waist which apparently is so skinny no stores carry it. Actually I can find stores that carry 30 inches but they don't fit, and when I measure they're always 1-2 inches larger. Which is a lot. It's as if stores have forgo a standard measurement sizes in favor of letting people fit into "smaller" sizes. My question is what to do?

I'm looking for a pair of jeans I saw someone wearing on the street today. I think I saw the same pair on Gwyneth Paltrow in People recently. They're women's jeans, low-rise, dark-ish, expensive looking, (hot!). They have a horizontal seam across the knee and snaps the size of nickels down the outside of the pant leg from knee to ankle. I've called several department stores and looked online, but I just can't seem to find them again. Help?
