Recently my jeans have started lasting only one wear before beginning to smell musty. About halfway through the day, I notice that I've been sweating enough to make the waistband slightly damp and there is a distinct odor coming from my jeans. It comes back quickly after washing, and I've never experienced this before in my life - I'm used to jeans lasting a week or so before switching them out. How do I keep from making my jeans smell, or how do I eliminate the odor permanently in washing? [more inside]

I've been dropping off my laundry for the past several years now, but really only know about the drop and fold. My work wardrobe is more business attire these days (male), but can't seem to figure out the terms and services usually available. This may sound a little silly, but I run into language barriers and unclear signs in every laundromat in a 10 block radius.
So whats usually available besides the classic wash & fold (and dry cleaning)?
-I have button down shirts, what does pressed mean?
-Whats the correct term for wash and iron? Sometimes they look puzzled. (sometimes they don't have this service)
-If you have your shirts done itemized, the $1.75 each option, what are they doing?
-How do most men get there work shirts laundered at these places?
Thanks, and note: these laundromat persons around me are all pleasant, and hard workers, but I just can't figure out whats what.

I would like to buy a used washer/dryer and thought I'd pick your collective brains. I've been in apartments with coin op laundry for so long the thought of buying a washer/dryer is daunting. I looked on craigslist and there are scads and scads of washers and dryers and the prices run from stoopid cheap to stoopid expensive. [more inside]

I know I should throw my dirty clothes down the laundry chute so that I can wash them later. I also know to bring clean clothes up from the laundry room and put them in my dresser or hang them up in the closet. But where do I put the clothes that have been worn at least once but that don't yet need to be washed? I'm talking about jeans, sweaters, and certain shirts, not underwear, socks or undershirts. Putting the semi-clean clothes back in the dresser doesn't seem ideal because they have some dirt or dust that I don't want to get on the unworn clothes. Right now, I fold up the semi-clean clothes and put them on the floor next to my side of the bed, but my wife objects to my clothes pile. How do other people handle this? Is there some standard system that I've missed out on?

I am looking for a clothes washing machine to fit into a relatively small apartment's bathroom. The bathroom was not originally intended for the installation of a washing machine, though there is just barely sufficient space, so I'm looking for something that is sort of tall and narrow, or shallower than normal in dimensions, not cube shaped like the typical front loading machine. I fold my t-shirts like this
. Lately, though, I've acquired a lot of long-sleeved thermals that I like to wear. Is there a comparable method of folding long-sleeved shirts? If not, what's your favorite quick and consistent long-sleeved-shirt folding method? (Extra points if it also works for bulkier stuff like sweaters and sweatshirts.)

My lovely boyfriend did me the wonderful favour of doing my laundry for me while i was at work! Unfortunately, that favour included machine washing and drying a 100% silk dress, and a 100% wool sweater. Help! (he also saw the not-so-nice underwear and the spanx, but that's a whole other story.) I have mutant sweat that seemingly alters the color of every shirt I own: whites turn sweat-stain-beige and most colors get bleached. Can I do anything to prevent or treat it, or am I stuck wearing the three colors that aren't affected? [more inside]

A crayon in the dryer ruined a whole load of my son's clothes. I want to keep some of them even though they are covered in crayon stains. If I wash and dry them with other non-stained clothes, will the stains (the color or the waxiness) transfer to the good clothes? [more inside]

How do you arrange worn clothing? I tend to wear clothes more than once before laundering them, especially pants and outerwear, and usually drop them on the chair or the bed. Are you supposed to fold them up and put them in with the cleaned clothes? [more inside]

I washed some clothes with a crayon in a pocket. Now I've got yellow crayon spread out across my clothes. But it gets better. The clothes weren't getting dry and I kept putting them through the dryer. 3 times total, never noticing that the crayon stains were there.
How can I get rid of, or at least minimize, the problem so I get some of my pants for work back? [more inside]

I recently bought a beautiful burgundy sweater coat. Unfortunately, I failed to notice the wash & care instructions, which state "Hand wash cold/separately." How exactly does one go about hand washing a large piece of clothing? The tag says "93% acrylic, 5% polyester, 2% wool." Is there any other way I can get this garment cleaned? Would Woolite be an option? Dry cleaning?

I have a short sleeve shirt that consistently comes out of the drier "bumpy" all over. There is a very repetitive pattern on the shirt like a checkerboard. The pattern alternates bumps and depressions. I can easily get the bumps out by ironing the shirt, but I'm lazy and would much rather just dry the shirt. Is there anything I can do to avoid the pattern? Or, should I just give up and relegate the shirt to my "do not wear because it's too hard to clean" bin? The shirt is 81% polynosic rayon and 19% polyester.

A load of laundry i just took out of the dryer appears to be completly ruined. I left a ball point pen in a pocket and it went thru the washer/dryer spilling all of it's horrible blackness all over my clothes. Is there any hope????? Any suggestions for attempting to treat them? I've googled for it but only found treatments pre-wash..
I never thought i would have such an attachment to clothes but a few of them are new and a few of them have sentimental value from a few triathlons I have done.. any help would be MUCH appreciated!
