I'm getting a Fitbit Flex soon and am planning to use its silent alarm feature so my partner can keep snoozing undisturbed while I rise and shine. I'd still like to have a noisy alarm as a backup just in case, though. Is there an Android app available that can do either of the following things:
1) notices that I'm already up (via the motion sensor, or unlocking the screen) and will skip any upcoming alarms or
2) has a really quick way to skip the next alarm (say, from the notification bar or a widget on the home screen) - if I have to open the app I'm likely to forget.
I believe KitKat has feature #2 in the stock clock, but my S3 Mini is still on version 4.1.2 and I'm not sure if/when an update will be coming.

I've decided to buy a tide clock, I can order one online, but I'd prefer to go into a store so I can ask questions regarding calibration etc. Does anyone know of a store that sells them in Toronto (or area?)

I have a mentally ill child who compulsively sets his alarm clock for the wee hours of the morning to do things he shouldn't be doing. His mental illness is such that having a clock in his room is very beneficial.
I want to buy him a desk clock that does not have alarm clock functionality and I can find none. Where can such a clock be acquired?
I would rather not debate my course of action. Thank you.

I figured out years ago how to change my Jeep's clock to 24-hour/military time. Recently the battery was disconnected and the clock reverted back to regular time, and I cannot figure out how to switch it back to 24-hour time. Does anyone know how to do this? [more inside]

Often I look at the clock when all the digits are the same, such as, 11:11 or 4:44. Is there a name for this? Do you have your own name for this?

I want to buy a new alarm clock radio for my bedside table as the old one keeps gaining four hours or so overnight. However when I look for one, I'm presented with your basic model ugly modern electronics
, and I have a Art Nouveau theme going on in my house. Can anyone help me find an alarm clock that will not look so absurdly out of place sitting next to my brass lampshade with the stained glass shade? I know there are brass alarm clocks, which would work aesthetically, but I can't bear to be woken up by an alarm, so while I don't have to have a radio
alarm clock I do need an alarm that won't make me hurl the clock across the room, such as something musical. I also want to be able to see the time in the dark. And no I don't have a watch with an alarm or a cellphone, and I'm not interested in getting either. Ideas?

I need to have repairs done on an antique clock in the Los Angeles area, but I'm unsure who would be reputable. Does anyone have any recommendations regarding a good place to get an initial estimate? Or is there a way to find good reviews for this kind of sevice? [more inside]

I have the perfect question for the hive mind:
Does anyone know the name for and reasoning behind the following visual phenomena:
1 The patterns you see when two fences (or any repeating "grid" of objects) pass each other (or appear to pass each other due to parallax) slightly out of phase. I was told the name for this and it bugs me that I've forgotten it.
2 The odd wobbling about you see in LED clocks when eating or (even more pronounced if you can do it) when "rolling" the letter R.
The name is what I'm most interested in RE 1, and the reasoning for 2!

I'm looking for a physical countdown clock that counts down to an arbitrary time. Ideally, it would be similar to the one that Robert Khoo has in the Penny Arcade TV Show. I believe this
is the clock in question and that underneath the "New Year" is a whiteboard. If I could find one just like this, that would be great, otherwise any digital countdown clock would work fine.

I'd like to find a classy clock that displays numbers, digital or otherwise, for my grandmother who no longer can read analog clocks. I don't even know what words to use to search for such a clock, to avoid the institutional look of most digital clocks.

I want an iPhone dock to put by my bedside - I've seen cool ones that turn the iphone into a clock display when you plug it in, but I want one that works as an alarm clock with time even without the iphone plugged in (though sync/synergy functions are cool and appreciated). What do people recommend?
