She is willing to pay for it. We (her friends, who are staging an intervention of sorts) feel landlord is being ridiculous. I'm asking on her behalf because 1) I'm taking this sooo personally because I don't think the situation is fair; This to me is no longer about a mouse, it's about a control freak landlord, but anyway. and 2) I also don't think it can wait for her to sign up on AskMeFi and wait the one week it takes for her to ask it herself. Way forward?

What to do about a possibly pre-existing pet urine stain that has soaked through the carpeting in our rental apartment? Especially since our cat has found the spot and is exacerbating the problem with her own urine!

Last week while vacuuming the staircase at my house, I managed to melt part of the plastic from the vacuum cleaner onto the carpet runner. (That runner hasn't been installed a month.) I was able to scrape away some of it with my fingers, but the spots are still crusty. How can I clean melted plastic residue off carpet pile without damaging the carpet?

Pregnant, first trimester. My office is having all the carpets, chairs, and upholstery cleaned. I was able to verify with the cleaners that they use a perc "dry cleaning" solution, among several other strong industrial chemicals. Should I be concerned in terms of anything teratogenic/dangerous to my embryo?

What is this strange phenomenon happening with ostensibly house trained dogs soiling the house? I just threw out three area rugs that my 4 yr. old Beagle has ruined by pooing and peeing on them, even to the point of blackening the hardwood floor beneath. The very FIRST thing my son's dog does when she visits is crap and pee right in front of us! No shame....

I spilled pink nail polish on a green carpet. How can I get it out? I'm reluctant to try nail polish remover because I fear it will bleach the carpet.

Too many pets and perplexing white carpet. Help? Mrs. LT and I live with our brood (4 cats, 1 dog) in an apartment that has . . . wait for it . . . white carpet. We didn't think about this when we moved in, but now the carpet's filthy, and we're trying to figure out a way to save it/our deposit, because otherwise we'll need to move when our lease is up before it gets any worse. Ugh, what can we do?

I'm currently renting a flat unit in New Zealand which I will be moving out next month. My current rental agreement states that I do not need to have the carpet professionally cleaned before I move out. I have two cats in the house and the question was raised with the property agent before I moved in. They have agreed to let me have the pets in the house and on the rental agreement, it also states that they are okay with it.

I live in a place that is rainy or snowy half the year, and during that half it is impossible to keep the floor of my car dry. It has begun to smell pretty bad. I recently had the interior detailed, which included washing the floor mats, and it smelt fine until the floor got wet again, which was almost immediately. Does anyone have a good technique for keeping wet carpet from smelling bad? Drying it is not an option. For bonus points, exactly what is it that causes the smell?

I need a small carpet cleaner - any suggestions? I only need it for stains on an (old) apartment carpet, including cat urine stains. I don't want something that breaks the bank, and I'm not expecting a miracle-worker - I just want to do what I can to keep from getting my security deposit dinged.

Here's a long-shot: About 20 years ago I bought a pair of custom-made mountain-man-ish/mocassin-style boots that I had fitted at a crafts fair in San Diego. They were moose-hide, awful-looking things with metal buttons, and came with a weird flat, textured rubber sole material that the maker said was actually conveyor belting that he cut to fit the boots. The boots were happily but a passing fancy, but the soling stuck in my memory: It was the best damn pet-hair catching substance in my known Universe... WHERE can I find some more? Attached to a stick, it'd make a smashing carpet brush.
