I would like to hear about the best book that will go over the momentous court cases of the Warren Supreme Court. It doesn't need to be basic. I would prefer one that goes over each case and puts it in social and/or political context. It doesn't necessarily have to have all the verbatim decisions (the published legal opinion) but could use parts of them to illustrate. I'd like all the cases mentioned in the Wikipedia entry, every thing from Brown vs. Board of Education to the Miranda case. Thank you!

Long story short, I moved from Texas to Massachusetts at the beginning of June this year while my car's registration in Texas was expired since April. I knew I was going to be moving very shortly so I purposely chose not to re-register my vehicle, which was my mistake. I own the fact that I am at 100% fault for this. [more inside]
I could have sworn I read Ta-Nehisi Coates write somewhere on the internet something along the lines of - "The North didn't win the Civil War, America did." The thinking behind this was that the war shouldn't be framed as "North vs. South" - but rather, "America vs. the CSA" or "America vs. some traitors." Does this ring any bells? [more inside]
I hired a marine contractor in Rhode Island to build a pair of centerboards for my boat ($12k). They were delivered 3 months late and didn't fit. I was very clear about the dimensions, yet the builder's designer altered the shape without consulting me. They've admitted fault in emails and in person, apologized, yet won't make the situation better. They offered a refund if I pay shipping charges to/from, customs and excise, and any damages. I don't feel I should pay $2k out of pocket and end up with nothing. What do I do to get justice? Report them to the Better Business Bureau? Hire a lawyer? Go to court or arbitration? Say mean things about them and buy a voodoo doll? Am I entitled to damages beyond the $12k? Any advice welcome.

Lately I've been feeling pretty isolated because none of my friends really share my views on civil rights or social justice. The people I know who are more progressive are really militant and extreme and they're not very helpful to be around either due to their rather harsh approach to their various causes. Where on the internet and in real life can I as a white girl go to be part of a community that is proactive and progressive towards intersectionality, feminism, LGBTQ rights, and similar topics? Where is the line between being civil and keeping your distance with a friend who you have lost respect for? Recently I have found out some things about a friend which have made me lose the respect I had for her. However, because she is part of a group of friends I hang out with, I still see her. And because I have not confronted her about the recent issues that have been brought to light (I don't feel it is my place to admonish her, these issues have got nothing to do with me) she is unaware that I feel differently towards her. I don't want to make it awkward and give her the cold shoulder, yet I want to keep my distance but still maintain a civil relationship, how would I do that?

I need information about The Home Cafe, Hawthorne, Nevada. It was a popular Chinese and American food diner that saw some action during the civil rights sit-ins of the 1960s. They used a distinctive china pattern produced by the TEPCo China Co. in El Cerrito, CA. The TEPCo factory closed in 1968. The pattern used at the cafe was called Confucius. I'm interested in those events and conditions during and following the Civil War that had profound impacts on U.S. and world history. However, I'm sure there are other important and far-reaching effects that many people don't know about...please, enlighten me!

How was the Civil War .58 Springfield rifle reloaded? I understand that it was a percussion-cap rifle rather than a flintlock, and that it fired a muzzle-loaded minie ball. But what was the reloading process? What did the ammunition look like? There was no metal cartridge involved? How long did it take to reload and fire one of those things? Thanks, from a firearms n00b!
