Looking for a new cologne

I’ve worn the same cologne off and on for about 20 years, and I think it’s time for a change. I’m looking for scents for everyday wear with woody notes (or citrus/fresh notes, like what I wear now). Nothing musky or spicy! [more inside]

Why isn't my candied orange peel turning translucent consistently, dammit?

Whenever I make candied orange (or other citrus) peel, it always takes longer than recipe-writers seem to expect for the peel to become translucent, and some never becomes translucent at all. (a) What gives? (b) Is the not-translucent peel cool to store and eat? [more inside]

What is killing my lemon tree, and how to cure?

Help me save my lemon tree. It's got tiny black spots on both sides of its leaves, and small beige bumps on the undersides. It's been spreading for about a month, but I'm finally noticing that it's actually harming the plant and killing the leaves. Badly damaged leaf: top, bottom, top close, bottom close. Early-stage leaf: top, bottom. Barely-affected leaf: top, bottom, bottom close. [more inside]

Caring for a potted citron tree

I have long-term custody of a potted citron tree that's a year or two old. It seems to be doing OK, but the central stem/trunk doesn't have any leaves at the top of it: Photo of the tree here. Should I prune the top of the trunk? If so, when and how? Is there any other pruning I should be doing at this point in its growth?

Why does orange pith make my lips tingle?

When I peel an orange or tangerine, I love to eat the pith off of the rind. When I do this, my lips always tingle for a while afterwards. What causes this? I've heard that orange piths have more vitamin C than the fruit itself, so is it the vitamin C causing the tingling?

Too many oranges!

My husband and I just received a gift box of Florida oranges. I know we'll never eat 30+ oranges before they go bad, so I'm looking for orange-intensive recipes. I've googled, but all I turn up are recipes that call for small quantities of orange juice or orange zest. I'd like to do something more interesting than just squeezing them for juice. Any suggestions?
